Yes, they did, because of Senate filibuster rules.

60-40 is a filibuster-proof majority. Also, how do you know all democrats would vote for it and all republicans would be against it?

Uh, this was a campaign promise he made a long time ago.
If you think this was sudden, you're wrong.

He's still got TWO MORE YEARS. He's not nearly done yet. Lots more to do and he's not gonna kiss the Republicans asses anymore. :)

Let's see the US went from being in DEEP DECLINE, facing possible financial catastrophe when he came into office.

And now the US has possibly the BEST financial situation since the Bush years, the dollar is strong again, we cut our imports of oil a huge amount.

He's eased up a bit on the war on drugs, allowing states to LEGALIZE MARIJUANA. Do you think Republicans would've done that?

His Obamacare works, I've seen people benefiting who didn't even have health care coverage before.

So let all the critics go on and on, but Obama was better than either BUSHIT president or REAGAN.

And his election meant more to democracy in this country than anything the conservatives have done in 50 years or more.

His opponents objectively look bad - that's not his fault, in fact he goes way out of his way to make them look somewhat less bad all the time.

If he wants to make them look bad, what's wrong with that? They are half a century overdue, it is a bad aspect of their policy and a good aspect of obama's.

It's a good thing, obama doing it is not inherently a point against it, it's a point for him. Doing good things to look good for doing good things is just fine.

Assata Shakur, also known as Joanne Chesimard, escaped from prison in 1979 after being convicted of murdering a NJ state trooper . She had been in a car with two fellow members of the Black Liberation Army when 2 troopers pulled them over on the New Jersey Turnpike.

Shakur was on the run for five years after her prison break before managing to reach Cuba, where she was granted asylum in 1984. She had been in a car with two fellow members of the Black Liberation Army when Foerster and another trooper pulled them over on the New Jersey Turnpike. I remember this happening- It was a huge deal here in Jersey-BTW-There is still a million dollar reward for her capture (I seen on Americas most wanted a few yrs ago)

She taught at a university for a long time, probably not any more
-Hey she sez she was railroaded cause she was a BLA menber- who knows?? and does anyone besides the troopers family really care anymore- -
If we start any relationship with Cuba, we should pick up where the Mob left off. Luciano and Lansky had resorts and casinos and were making millions (for themselves and the Cuban govt)-
Dont know which way the US will go with this ..but at the end of the day its always about the money. Even a political firecracker like this...should be interesting

Indeed he has 2 more years, but a massive legislation like removing the Cuba embargo could take up to two years or more to successfully pull through. I'd be surprised if he fights this one all the way through, or enacts an executive order for it. I predicte he's gonna half-ass this one just like his proposal to close Guantanamo, you know... his OTHER Cuba campaign promise.

People always seem to forget that economies have cycles regardless. The leadership will take credit wherever they can for political opportunities. Lets just ignore the 20 trillion dollar debt, shall we? It's still not looking good out there.

I can agree that states legalizing marijuana is a good thing. In fact, they should have been left alone to do it at their own digression the first place. I'm an anti-federalist anyway. I'm not a republican either, so fire away.

Obama care works for people? Insurance corporations aren't people, dude.

It's not impossible for Americans to travel to Cuba. All we have to do is take an indirect flight out of a different country, and Cuban customs won't stamp a page in our passports. Instead they put in a removable post-it note inside the pages and stamp that instead. Then we remove that one when we fly home. I've never been to Cuba, but I know a few Americans who have.

Nothing is wrong with making your opponents looking bad. I'm pointing out it's a simple game of politics to wait until the very end to enact this idea. When he could have done it way early on.

As far as that goes, I don't think obama has shit for a plan, shit for planning ability, shit for the balls to follow through with a plan....

His only plan is to be a republican in a democrat's suit.

I have no idea how he stumbled into working on this, it seems too good to be true, waiting for the catch....

Gee, I bet you must be personally so much worse off than 6 years ago, right?

If you ain't then you got nothin' to complain about do ya?

Please explain how you personally have suffered due to Obama's actions.

Also go on and explain how the ELITE have personally made your life a living hell.

I'm waiting to hear that for many years now.

I guess we're way off topic. But here's the connection.

Obama has made life better for millions of Americans.

He's now going to help make life better for millions of Cubans.

I guess that's bad in your book.

the fallacy is that someone engendered your spite other than you, you choose to be despicable, meaning to denigrate with speech

Whereas you may gain allies with your rhetoric, they might dump you with the next line. It is an inherently unstable way to relate to people and it is sometimes difficult to find connections that make you feel safe in the world.

So dig it. It is self defeating to engage in conspiracy theories as you have no power to assess what is real and nothing to comfort your fear. You just think it's all going to hell and maybe you're just going spend your time pumping up in case someone tries to fuck with you on the way.

I hope we can dispel the conspiracy theory our world leaders assume that something is a threat to world order The world is ordered so well that we are threatened by it. rising water everywhere. Water seeks it's level.
The united states thinks it needs quick response capability when in fact it needs to quit rocking the boat. But look there are money and careers to be had as soldiers and arms dealers, and leaders that can give back what they get.

Opening up to the family of life is a good, sound idea.
