I think maybe because you were taught it from a young age. I think english is fairly difficult. It is one of the most bastardised languages in the known universe [i imagine]. It has no ryhme or reason, it just is. I would not like to forget how and have to learn again, that is for sure.:furious3: I only speak/read English . I don't want to learn any other language. Edit: I imagine i know more foreign words than i imagine, cunningly 'stolen' from other languages.
i've been able to read and write as long as i can remember. it was my knack. so i don't remeber ever having to really learn it, just to polish up the spelling, really. but teaching it to my daughter is a freaking nightmare. "does car start with k, mommy?" "well, no." "why, mommy?" "i have no idea, baby."
I want to know why American English is differnt to 'Proper' English. Teaching the differing spellings must be a nightmare. Plus, why do some Americans say vehicle so god damn silly. If you teach your child anything. I beg you to teach her how to say that word like the majority of humanity... oh and alluminium.
since it's spelled aluminum, i'll teach her to say aluminum. no need to add extra sounds to an already difficult (for a 4 year old) word. and we'll say veeickle if we wanna.
Curiosity killed the cat but satisfaction brought it back. My Grandmother understood about 13 languages and tried to teach me Ukrainian and Finnish but I was either to stupid or not curious enough to learn. I only remember two fragmented sentences of those lessons. Dom bra day! – Good day! (probably not spelled right but I do wish every one a - dom bra day) Finie clopits! – You’re a good boy! (for sure not spelled right) PS I don’t think my mother thought I was stupid because I couldn’t learn a second language – after all she called me “Sunny” so she must of thought that I was pretty bright. Cheers!
Johnny.. Your *baboeskha*=Ukrainian grandmother..was a clever lady.. always treasure your roots..and whether we speak 10 languages.. it's the words that come out of our mouths that counts.. so..at least be glad you know English.. my grandfather was an analphabetic..and that's no joke.. when he had to sign something..he made a simple + but..I was proud of him..great dude he was.. he died of old age at age 91.. maybe we are all to clever here on random..bwaahah.... Tiger
I thank you for the reply. My grandmother was a pretty cleaver woman. She also could swing a pretty mean hammer till the day she died. I might not of learned language from her but she did teach me a thing or two about carpentry. Cheers!
