I know some of you are just drooling waiting for me to respond. Higherthanhell couldn't even wait, he had to give an answer for me. One I'm sure he was just praying I would give also. So to give you your cookie, a couple of things I believe were necessary decisions, and improvements are Intelligence Reform, Patriot Act, and no-warrant wiretapping. Before the flames start being thrown, I believe that these programs are necessary, however very susceptible to abuse. These programs need to be transparent and be monitored by a nonpartisan watchdog.

I realize there are many different opinions and viewpoints on this forum, and this is my opinion. I am aware that there are some that believe these programs are infringing on Americans civil liberties, some that believe this is another step towards a police state, some believe that the threat from terrorism is fabricated and that there is no entity such as Islamic extremists, and some that think the Constitution was written in a way that it will give freedom to Americans and protect them at the same time, and some think that when Thomas Jefferson and Benjamin Franklin made those famous quotations they had any clue as to what enemies the United States would be facing in the future and how they would defend themselves from them.

I wouldn't expect you to want to know who the enemy of your country is, why they want you dead, and what you could possibly do to prevent them from killing you. It is probably much easier to wait until your government takes military action against them, smoke a bowl and bitch about it from behind a computer screen.

Why don't you ask Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, Ramzi bin al shibh, Abu Zubaydah, Muhammad Atef, Walid Ba'Attash, or Abu Yasir al-Jaz'iri if Bush is their dream come true. After years of using that term to denounce patriots, democrats or anyone with a working brain ole Rummy cut and ran 12 hours after the election. what i'd like to see is the people who support the war to actually go to the war.

now what this character proposing a draft is saying is that it makes sense to have a draft because people have more to lose if america has a war and thus will not vote for warmongers, so you see by proposing and implementing a draft you actually create peace by having a draft of young people into the armed services

put simply his logic is - WAR IS PEACE.

by the same token i would like him to first propose that the president and all politicians who have supported warlike measures regardless of age or ability to immediately serve in the frontline units for a year before any draft comes into effect(this means in the worst case scenario - even if they are being wheeled in a hospital bed into a firefight or wielding a white cane and hearing device to see and hear where they are going).

by this measure america can more effectively prevent war occurring rather than have a draft alone, why because it makes the policy makers more accountable for their voting preferences - vote for war and you must be in that war, at once, at the frontline taking "point" i believe its called.

Actually, that study's numbers have been verified and triple-checked and confirmed beyond any reasonable doubt as accurate. No qualified person has yet spoken up to contradict it. It's been scrutinized to an extreme, and was even published in one of the world's most respected peer-reviewed scientific journals.

You may believe that some people have contradicted it. But if said "contradiction" isn't published in an internationally-renowned peer-reviewed scientific journal, it isn't even considered part of the conversation, and has no relevance in this scientific analysis.

The dangers Jefferson and Franklin faced were far more extreme than even the most ridiculous "worst case scenario" dreamed up by the fear merchants of today. The phrase "we must hang together or we will most assuredly hang separately" was meant entirely literally, and it was certainly true. When the British fleet sailed into New York harbor, it was probably the most dramatic show of military force in human history up until that time. (Example: over 10,000 American soldiers and sailors were killed by the British, during that occupation, in New York City alone- in a country with less than one percent of today's population- that's equal to losing far more than one MILLION troops today in a single US city.)

It is near impossible for the amount of deaths estimated by the Lancet study to be SEVERAL TIMES GREATER than the amount that can be accounted for by the Iraq Ministry of Health as well as world humanitarian groups and the international media.

October was one of the bloodiest months since the Iraq war began. The largest morgue in Baghdad received around 1600 civilian casualties. For the Lancet study to hold water, there would had to have been almost 15,000 deaths EVERY MONTH for 44 months. That is nearly 500 deaths EVERY DAY. Even if you took the level of violence at its peak and sustained that level every moment since the conflict began, the Lancet estimate would still be questionable. I don't care how accurate these surveys have been in the past. A cross sectional cluster sample survery is NOT AN ACTUAL COUNT. This number is absurd. Thursday November 9 the Iraq Minister of Health released an estimated number of deaths that was three times the number of accepted deaths, and that number is four times LESS than the Lancet number.
