ultrathin disposie pads are practically non-existant though. guess i wont know until i try them though...
<Snork> LOL! I always equate things to Barbie, as well. As a kid, we didn't have a lot of money, and I was always using stuff aroudn the house to dress and accessorize my Barbies. Imagine if I had found these pads in my mom's closet? LOL!
Totally OT - I did the same thing when I played with barbies. I was such a dork I made her a little school bag with cloth and made books for her with folded paper. Even my Barbie was a book-worm! I've been wanting to try cloth pads for ages, and so far I haven't, mostly because my bf thinks the idea is horrible and creepy. But now that I've read more about it, I care less about what he thinks. He won't even know the difference, anyway - I do all the laundry! I will definitely make some up next time my period decides to make an appearance.
humblebee, another reason to try cloth: Rinse your pads in a container of water to be used on the garden. the blood is so full of nutrients, it's wonderful for the garden!
What?! No, no... I got it, but... what?! I thought the cloth pad thing was odd. So you put these things in the washer? Can you dry them in the dryer? I was going to ask if they were made in lighter colors so if you were wearing something white... but why would anyone wear white while on their period. Ladies, I think I've seen everything now.
Moon flower, you might like the Diva cup then! I LOVE my diva cup, it's tons more safe and convenient than tampons. I don't have to change it for up to twelve hours with no fears of TSS or nasties in my body. Plus, it pays for itself after just three or four periods!
Now that is something I would look into. I used instead for a while when it first came out, but those aren't reusable. I was looking on that website someone recomended for the cloth pads and cups and it looks to be about $35 if I am looking at the right thing. I figure it'd be worth a try. Is it messy? I read that you just dump it out, clean it off then put it back in... sounds a little messy for a public restroom, but if you don't have to change it for 12 hours I am sure I could find a way around public restrooms.
What happens in a public restroom for me: I take it out, dump it into the toilet, and then wipe it out with some toilet paper. Then I insert it again. When I get back to a place with a private washroom, then I rinse it off. It's just as comfortable as tampons, pays for itself...I love it. I would look into it... But be warned that the first few cycles you use it, you might not get the hang of it, but keep with it!
I love my cloth pads. I find them to be more absorbent, thinner, and much more comfortable than disposable pads. I bought some from Mom and Me Creations, then slightly altered the design and made my own from some very nice knit hemp terrycloth fabric.
my cupper routine: take water bottle or drippy wet paper towels in the stall. remove, empty and rinse (by squeezing the towels into it or rinse with the bottle. I hear the sports bottles with squirt tops are really good for this) re insert. I don't care for TP since the cheap stuff leaves shreads. paper towel is placed in the toss away pad bin/trash can. bumble... sorry, but if your sig O is not the one bleeding HE HAS NO SAY.
This is rather thick.. The commercial pads I use are quarter inch thick or less than that. Though perhaps it just takes some getting used to. I learned quite a bit in this thread. However I'm still not sure how a Diva Cup works. Do you put it inside the vagina and cup it under the cervix? And can someone clarify how long it lasts? 3-4 periods? But it costs $35 ?! This is not exactly cheap, and it is still disposable.
