Sorry to bring back up a recently dead thread -- but I felt it was in need of some more specific and referenced information, due to the sheer amount of misinformation it contains.

In the middle of all the misinformation, there were some gleaming rays of hope, that not everyone, was ignorant.

These guys know what they are talking about. N2O in and of itself, is basically harmless. (They are only missing one very small point that is really only important in terms of extreme prolonged use -- Which I will get to later)

First and foremost -- N2O does NOT kill brain cells. Lack of oxygen kills brain cells. Also Butane/duster/gas/zippo fluid/markers -- pretty much any other inhalant you can think of, kills brain cells, and should be avoided.

N2O, is unique in this way, as the only easily accessible inhalant, that does NOT kill brain cells. There are dangers associated with it's use, but all of the acute dangers, have to do, with HOW it is used, and not with the N2O itself.

Before I get into exactly what the dangers are, I want to correct a BIG piece of misinformation in this thread

Shocbomb -- perhaps you should actually do some reasearch before acting arrogant about something, and making your self look like a fool.

Sure you were, as was I, taught in school, that brain cells do NOT grow back. Guess what -- They were wrong. It's not the only example, of things taught in schools, that ended up being wrong.
About a year ago I was on a kick of watching informational documentaries on Google Video, and watched a whole series called "Grey Matter" that was basically lectures from all the leading nuero-scientists. That's where I learned, that they have definitely found now, that brain cells do indeed regrow/regenerate.

I can't (wont spend the time to) find which of the many Grey Matter video's has this information in it, but just as evidence, from the links below, you can see that the assumption that "brain cell's never grow back" has been in question since 10/15/1999.

    Now back to N2O dangers....

    N2O Dangers include
    * Oxygen deprivation (never do it in a situation where if you pass out, you wont be breathing fresh air (i.e. No releasing tanks in small area, or putting plastic bags over your head(i.e. don't be stupid)))

    * Frost bite (NEVER huff straight from a tank or canister, always huff from a balloon, or whipped cream dispenser (i.e. don't be stupid))

    * Loss of motor control (don't do a drug that is used for anesthesia, while standing, or in any position where loss of consciousness puts you in danger (i.e. don't be stupid))

    * Vitamin B12 interference (If you do TONS of it (like 100's a day for MONTHS) and don't take B12 supplements, you can suffer severe B12 deficiency -- see case reports below for what can happen - but keep in mind, that these people were doing thousands of dollars worth a month for many months (and if they had taken B12 supplements from the start, this might not have even happened to them)

    * Folic acid interference (this as I understand it is a result of B12 deficiency, and not directly caused by the N2O, you can read more details at the below link.)

    * Nausea (SWIM has never, nor anyone who SWIM knows, had this problem -- but to be clear -- in case you didn't realize this on your own, if it does make you nauseous at all, (if you for some reason still wanted to do it) you should probably not do it, without a sober baby sitter -- if you did pass out, and vomit you could asphyxiate (i.e. this falls under the already mentioned rule of thumb -- never be in a situation, where if you pass out, you would not be breathing fresh air, or any other danger))

Lastly, there is some evidence that N2O might kill a negligible amount of brain cells -- a night of drinking alcohol, will kill many more though. And the Alcohol is physically, and mentally addictive, and bad for your liver, and your body in many other ways. You decide which is worse.

this is good report.. Ive read it b4, but just be aware, these symtoms are common among inhalent abuse, Including glue, cloronated solvents and duster gas...

I aint no stranger to refergerant gas, at one time I did it(duster)I lost some urine control....
But it also happened doing much nitrous from a tank... But the nitrous took many use/hits to lose some urine. It cuts off your oxygen.. If you hang yourself this will also occure. Very common in death to piss and shit yourself..
BTW Im also a electrician... < certain inhalents and stuff are used by ppl that hold these trades...

thanks zavix for posting something of value here and actually explaining N2O instead of the BS that so many others posted.

Zavix, great post, but seriously man you have to learn how to use commas. Just makes it kinda hard to read, ya know?

My name is zavix...... and I am a commaholic. :D

Yea -- I know I have a comma problem..... I'm good at math and logic -- I suck to high hell at proper English, (particularly grammar) and being clear and concise.

I spent years in school being taught how to use comma's, year after year, and it never stuck. After all those hours and all those teachers I've kind of decided that there is no way I am going to be able to teach myself now.

And I rationalize this decision by thinking -- hey at least I am not one of those people who writes 3 paragraphs of stuff without a single bit a punctuation - no periods, comma's, nothing but 30 lines of run on sentence* (not even a paragraph break) -- I know that's not saying much -- but hey -- it works for me. ;)

A bit more seriously though -- it would really take a lot more effort for me than most people to learn to properly use comma's. And I figure my time is better spent making the content good -- even if it's kinda hard to read. Perhaps not the wisest decision. But it's the one I've made.

*BTW, I know I also have a bit of a run-on sentence problem too

EDIT: I spent almost 2 minutes re-reading this post and did my best to removing un-needed comma's (I took out AT LEAST 15) --- I don't really know how well I did though. Feel free to let me know.

^ Lol Yeah that was a lot easier to read. I get you though, deff, the content is a lot more important than the mechanics. I hate run on paragraphs as well, can't stand em because I lost the point of it all so quickly.
