You also have to think of those "Bible thumpers", who, in reality, most certainly do NOT "practice what they preach", and, indeed, partake freely of the dire "sins of the flesh" that they so profoundly denounce?
I know some who are in the "Do as I say, not as I do!" club. I understand that just like everyone else, they're human and their needs can take a higher priority over what they believe, and the temptations of the flesh are very damned tempting and only the most devout can resist its allure. You're not going to question me about being Saved (which I've been since I was 13) and start preaching out sinning and confessing them but then you want to do a little sinning with me and tell me that God and Jesus will forgive us this sin and... I just shrug and we do some sinning and I've had some pray afterward. Fine. If that helps to justify their actions, I'm okay with them doing whatever they need to do to be right with themselves. I have more "faith" in human nature than I do religion, which ain't saying a whole lot given the nature of the beasts we can be...
How true is this is up to opinion. "The Church" over the many centuries has attempted to put together what is deemed sacred texts except "The Church" could never agree on which writings should be included in the Biblical Canon. Many writings have been omitted or deemed not sacred thereby not recognized as doctrine. But if these omitted texts are supposed to be written by God, as HR's will spout those that are included are, then aren't these HR's living in constant sin by determining what is or isn't the word of God on their own? Again, as I have said before, their basis of proof there is a god is an oxymoronic set of scripture hand picked for their own justification.
I tend to agree; the Church has been putting a spin on things since its inception (including stealing the Hebrew bible and making it their own) and if the HRs are living in constant sin by daring to know the Will and Word of God, then the Church - and perhaps all religions - are guilty of the same thing if there are texts that have been omitted or deemed to not be sacred. Now, I just asked Copilot how many versions of the bible are there, and it came back with there are approximately 500 English versions of the bible and King James is just one of them... and my question to the HRs would be, "Why are there so many versions and not just one version?" And then I'd sit back and watch them squirm trying to explain this one and, really, like I tend to do when I decide to challenge what they're saying...
Given what I've come to understand, I don't know what's so "dangerous" about holy rollers and their rather misguided mindset. Really... this is 2024, not 1954 and the so-called Moral Majority no longer wields the power and influence it once had over everyone and when bibles were being beaten over the heads of the nonbelievers and other heathens, real or perceived. I'm 68-fucking-years-old and I'll be damned if I'm going to be afraid of what a holy roller has to say about how I've been living my life and, yeah, I'm a sinner and I'm okay with it.
KD23: Well said! And, technically speaking, we are ALL "sinners", and that certainly includes all the "holy rollers", not to mention all priests, clergymen, ministers, bishops, cardinals, etc......NO EXCEPTIONS!
The names and faces change; the message of religion never changes. The human race has changed; religion hasn't. Five hundred versions of the English language bible. Five hundred. The holy rollers are cordially invited to blow me...
And, I will be willing to wager that not a few of them would not only ENJOY the experience, but also, come back for further "anoiting", while on their knees...............
Define "Sinner" I asked Google. Here's the response from the Oxford Dictionary: "a person who transgresses against divine law by committing an immoral act or acts." So what is "Divine Law" I ask. Most answers state it is law that God set forth. Well now if there is no God there must be no Divine Law. If there is no Divine Law then there must be no such thing as a Sinner. Put that in a HR's pipe and let them smoke over that reasoning.
They would say that there is a God so Divine Law is still in effect and applies to everyone who transgresses against it. Or, if you dare to be human, you will get jacked in the afterlife and that's after we stone you to death or kill you in some other hideous and painful way. Then, for extra credit, ask them why a merciful and loving god would allow us to be murdered in such fashions...
KD23: Too bad that the majority of "holy rollers" seem to forget this little item, found in the Bible: ".....let he who is without sin cast the first stone......." And: "......love they neighbor as thyself......" Guess these don't fit their own personal "criteria".............
The New Testament doesn't serve their purposes all that much although some are quite adept at quote verses that will suit a purpose or two.
You've got that right, for sure! The "HRs" really delve into Old Testement "teachings" (and often twisting them around to serve their own hate-mongering purposes); this is where they get a lot of their "ammo" for futher hate-mongering tirades..........
Interesting thought.... How "HOLY" can a "holy roller" be if his "earthly mission" is to twist the Bible around to promote hatred and intolerance, and to preach hatred in the Name of the Lord...........talk about hypocriscy....
IMHO, today's "holy rollers" are what they are is that they been "brainwashed" with destructive "fire-and-brimstone" fodder since they were weaned. Their minds are now too full of lies, hypocriscy, and "PUB" (Pure Unadulterated Bullshit) that they have NO conception of what TRUE brotherhood is, never mind practicing "let he who is without sin cast the first stone"................
