I'm not aware of any such laws where I currently reside. What I do know is how frequent it is, both in the U.S. and elsewhere. I don't think people in other professional brackets have any idea.

I'm actually among the prudes.

It's not a huge issue for me. When I'm working, I'm always zeroed in on my work.

Worse; the kid is an army brat. But at this point she may also turn on me for not going ahead and doing her.

 

I do think it is better to avoid romance/flings/sex with people you're working with (students, work colleagues, etc). If anything goes wrong, it will perhaps be tempting for the other person to hit you where you've met: at your work place. In her social network there are plenty of other people who know you and whatever she could post would spread quicker than the time it'd take her to regret it and correct the rant-reaction.

Be careful, as some students may turn against you for no good reason, like being caught cheating.

Even when you move to another work place, you could be hit, because there is no telling the far reach of internet social networks.

Only you know if it is worth the risks.

As I've told you before, you should start dating 19 yr olds, not for sex, but to get some truth. Just keep it innocent, take her out somewhere very public, classy place for dinner or shopping at the mall on a Saturday afternoon, then watch the other chics.

I couldn't say, but again, I don't think it's federal or state legislation you need to be concerned about - consenting age is consenting age and all - but the terms of employment, and in particular what a breech of specified terms might involve. In order to preempt the kind of squabbles that might follow a teacher-student relationship, a lot of learning institutions outright forbid staff to engage in all too familiar relations with its students. It's more about insulating against litigation than anything else. But then still the extent to which such statutes are actually upheld may vary.

 

I know for a fact my institution turns a blind eye to it.
