Can you name one of our elected politicians that does that? I wish if it was actually true the world would be a better place, and our elected officials would be sitting in their houses of government for votes instead of out fund raising.

They would read the bills they vote for, instead of relying on staff or lobbyists to tell them how to vote.

It would also be nice of our elected officials to have to show up for votings and such (Kennedy comes to mind). Maybe if they were fined say $50,000 and 30 days in jail they would make sure to be there.

Our rates weren't that high here in California until we were sold the free market solution of privatization.

Our clean running hydroelectric plants were closed and sold to foreign interests in California. We were told deregulation would lead to efficiency and lower rates, what we got was Enron. And how many of their executives bailed out rich and safe while the poor and working man are still paying for their greed? Much like the savings and loans scandals of the 1980s many suffered and were never recompensed while the rich skated away with their profits. The Bushes and their friends got richer, while the working man got sold a bridge.

A government held accountable by the people can be much more effective than a system governed by the rich.

This is our Tea Pot Dome scandal, but the majority are buying into empty promises of prosperity. A rising tide won't raise your boat if you don't own one.

Why don't we ask these sort of questions any more?

Sound familiar? Cheney has no legal or fiduciary links to Haliburton, does he??

And that boat in your driveway if it isn't owned free and clear it can be repoed right before the water rises and you need it.

Ask the people affected by Katrina.

I don't know about putting them in jail, but I know when I had to do jury duty and missed work. The court paid me 50 dollars, but my employer didn't pay me anything. I think if they don't show up to do their job they shouldn't recieve their pay. And they shouldn't be allowed to use their staffs. Hell who actually does the work reads the bills it's not our elected officials many times.

Hell, give them fifty dollars a day for each day they don't show up to do what they were elected to do, if they can show they were out serving their constintuents. But don't give them an annual salary, make it hourly like the rest of us, with no pension or health care. How many of them do you think would even run for office. And they have to show proof just like I had to show my employer proof that I had jury duty.

An average of workers salaries throughout the US should be formulated and that's what the legislators should be paid.Wouldn't they then try to raise everyones pay so theirs in turn, would go up?Might lead to what is referred to as fortress america.S'ok with me.

But let's not average in CEO pay. And let's see how they feel not receiving a raise in ten years.

We were told consumer prices were high because of frivolous law suits, I say bull shit it's more likely it's because of these CEOs and CFOs that supposedly deserve these outrageous payments. How much did Enron ever pay back? what about the Savings and Loans that went belly up? But their executives I bet are still playing golf at subscription Country Clubs.

Shit they are probably part of the current administration, or invested with Guilliani in Dubai.

John F. Kennedy fought in World War II like everyone else, even though his family was extremely wealthy, and he donated his salary to charity while he was President. Not too many folks like him around anymore.

yeah, and plenty of hardworking americans lost their retirement savings and ended up on public assistance programs. give the republicans a little more time, they'll wipe out the public assistance programs too. i bet most of those retirees voted republican all their lives.

I'd rather elect a man that needed the money he earned in office to support his family, then one that doesn't think it's important.

Yea, the more money they have, the more they want. That's the reason we're in Iraq in the first place-money. Those people are nothing but avaricious scum. That's why we need to get the old crew out of the White House and get new blood in there, people that aren't part of the Establishment.

I'll be watching this election from somewhere else-I won't be around to vote in this election. I wish Paul and anyone else of good will that's willing to go up against the Big Boys the best of luck. They'll certainly need it.

Yeah, but those people according to the republicans are just using the system as an excuse not to work. It's just a marketing ploy that promises people prosperity by making someone else the enemy, when the enemy is actually those espousing the changes. We will end up making Enron and Halibuton and ilk richer and richer without accountability, because the free market system works and we have to protect corporate wealth.

The only reason we are still in Iraq is because the new government hasn't signed the profit sharing agreements (PSAs) so corporate oil can be held immune from legal action, but reap the financial gains of their oil. More power to the Iraqis that they are holding out.

Ever wonder why Blackwater and Haliburton subsidaries get away with murder in Iraq?

yeah, it's entirely too easy to get average americans to think of each other as the enemy isn't it?
