Thanks for those two examples of how DANGEROUS Christian thinking is. And those are relatively innocuous, but certainly indicate how Christian mythology replaces LOGIC and scientific study for so many people. And today we are still faced with false, manufactured "moral dilemmas" thanks to Christians poking their noses everywhere and imposing their beliefs upon everyone! I'm just waiting for Christians to announce that Global Warming is God's punishment for being evil, accompanied by their refusal to do absolutely anything about it because it would be against God's will.
Sure it's what some Christians thought, but in my oppinion it wasn't what the words meant. I think that "in pain thou shalt bring forth children" shows that good things can come through pain. It's giving hope to people who suffer. IMO
Yes well, then either you or millions of christians misinterpreted the bible. (or perhaps both... or perhaps everybody... heck, i'm sure everybody misinterpreted it)
Yes, far better to give people "hope" than a good pain killer. That's the problem with Christianity you NEVER get what you REALLY NEED, just illusions and platitudes!
I believe that the bible, the church, christianity and most religions as a whole, are the cause of pretty much every evil of society.(today's and yesterday's) Without this book, without jesus christ, and the obsurd rantings of; eye for an eye, but be sure to love thy neighbor too- do not covet, do not have sex, do not love that person, you must love this person-without all of this horse shit, people wouldn't know to hate, to kill, they wouldn't fear other people's differences, because they wouldn't know any better. And with no difference-where's the war? Would it be a perfect world, fuck no-we'd still have psychos, but it'd be a whole hell of a lot better!
Um I really hope you are joking. Lets take a look at animals in the wild. They kill and yet have no religion. So naturally humans would know to kill (to survive, defend themselves, get females, etc.). It's basic animal instinct really. Though I will agree that most wars MAY have been able to be averted without the influence of religion (how ever there is NO way to tell for sure). If I was Christian and interperated that part of the Bible the way I already have, then there would be no reason not to give pain killers. I don't take anything from the Bible as literal. In my eyes the passage on child birth was just an example because its natural and beautiful. No, it only took ONE person to misinterpret the Bible and then preach his/her interpretation to everyone else. Then it took those people to follow bindly and not interpret the Bible for themselves (which is what I think happened).
I doubt it. We are talking about 2007 years (ATLEAST!) of this bullshit going through the world. And even today there are still being made mistakes and wrong assumptations as to what the bible means. (I mean, hundreds of different opionios as to what it mean, and all of them should be correct? right.. ) Plus, who can guarantee us that the true story has not changed in 2007 years? If you tell something in the beginning of a circle of people, at the end of the circle, the original story is different. That happends in less then 5 minutes... now what happends in more then (atleast) 2000 year, with all kinds of people that desire power, and change the religion to their will? New statement, old statement, all kinds of meetings, things changed... it's all became a fairy tall that a big part of the world beliefs. Not only christianity by the way, the islam shares the same problem... especially the problem with christians and muslim people is how they interpret things to justify killing (Killing in the name of...) But only ONE person that misunderstood and changed something? Or preached, and the rest followed? For 2000 years? No way dude Peace
Every religion other than deism , is having this problem, and they are not willing to think outside the religious box, and hence they are not creating evolved responses to new changes , which is resulting in stagnation and decay, and stifling individual and social growth. This is really a major , global problem. If we can get rid of it, 99% of the earths present problems will be solved.
What I meant to convey is that it only took ONE person to start it. Then the other people followed him blindly. Then another guy came along and interpreted it a different way, and people blindly followed him. Point is that the majority of the main stream Christians blindly follow the religious leaders. They don't interpret the Bible or religion themselves. And some/most of the leders manipulate the people. But that doesn't mean my interpretation is wrong. It could easily be that the main stream leaders misinterpreted it. Not that MILLIONS misinterpreted it. Few misinterpreted it and the millions followed. Also, the origional person who misinterpreted it (either by mistake or on purpose to gain a posistion of power) made it harder for other people to interpret it for themselves because it would have been widely regarded as the basis for the religion (Chatholocism as an example). BTW, the Bible and Christianity are not 2007 years old lol. It would be impossible since Jesus did not die 2007 years ago and Christianity was only a religion and the Bible was only written after his death. But I get your point.
According to some of those folks, the old statements are far older then 2000 years old. Either way, it keeps the same. If one person did it, and millions followed, then those millions still misinterpreted it with their filthy ignorance.
What about old societies with oral histories only. Are their stories True? Of course they are. That is because the stories are not told only once but over and over again. One can interpret a segment of the bible differently than another person, but the whole of the document is there for anyone to read. I think that the impact that one man made was just too great. So great in fact, that he is talked about more than the great kings (quick, who was king of the roman empire at the time of J.C.s' birth?) more than the great military leaders or philosophers. One man with no money or wealth who traveled and talked to people for only 3 years! And we still talk about this same man today, amazing! Peace.
Haha not true at all. Jesus is in history books and so is the account of his death. So sorry man, that's just wrong wrong wrong wrong wrong wrong wrong wrong, your wrong. lol sorry i had to do it. If you watched Scrubs you'd know what i'm talking about. That was parts of the OLD Testament (basically the Torah) that was written 2000 years ago. Christianity is not based on the Old Testament and the Bible was only written after the New Testament. Christianity has only been a religion since after Jesus of Nazereth died. You can't misinterpret something if you don't even read it lol. Even if they did read it it doesn't mean they interpreted it if they just followed what some guy told them to follow.
Lol...thanks I guess unless you're being sarcastic. I don't believe the resurrection or son of God stuff either and I know they aren't in history books. But, his life is.
There was a historian whose name I don't remember who mentioned Jesus in his writings. Jesus did walk the Earth, but I wouldn't say that he was the son of god anymore than anyone else is. After all, isn't everyone a son or daughter of the divine? In my belief system, I believe everyone includes animals as well as people. I hold the lives of all living creatures as valuable. Peace and love
Jesus' bones have been found. No one seems to deny he was a REAL person anymore. He was just as real as you and me, and really NO DIFFERENT, other than the fact he attained sustained enlightenment, like the Buddha and others.
I agree with you Skip! We can all attain enlightenment. We are all Buddhas or Jesus's within! Peace and love
Mankind is not perfect. We need to remember that and look at those who were mislead by their corrupt religious leaders with compassion, as well as generate compassion for the corrupt leaders. Love heals hatred. Peace and love
I believe that the Bible is an outdated book that needs to be acknowledged by followers as such, for there is much focus on hatred as there is on love. There is no perfect book because man is not perfect. I believe the Dhammapada is as close as you will get to a perfect book because it is the words of the Buddha without any interpretation by man, unlike the bible. Read it some time; for it is a simple book with much wisdom. Peace and love
