No, only the vile dictator in the United States...Korea would have to be crazy to give up their nukes with the US so clearly gunning for them (ever since we got the first little inkling a few years ago when suddenly they were included in "the axis of evil"). They're not stupid. and...CNN makes mistakes all the time?...come on...this is a huge issue, as if they are going to be sloppy with this one!
Also, just a thought...who is exactly supposed to DECIDE "who lets someone have nukes?"... what God died and made the United States a proxy? I don't want nukes in anyone's hands, but I certainly don't want them in the hands of a malicious global gangster like the United States.
But Bush can't use nuclear weapons without congressional approval, and even then it would piss a lot of people off, thats the difference, between a real dictator, like Jong Ill, and a crappy president like Bush, who doesn't have the power to nuke anyone he wants. Kim Jong Ill could just get pissed off at South Korea one day, *which happens a lot* and decide to nuke them. Comeon, for defense? Korea has been pursing nuclear weapons for years... in fact, it looks like their nuclear program was at its heaight in the 90's... when the US was trying to persuade them to give up their nuclear program in exchange for food. The whole time they were taking our humanitarian aid and building nukes anyway. This is going to cause severe reprecussions through the region, and Japan and South Korea will have nuclear weapons by the middle of the next decade...
We have the power to intervene in who has nuclear weapons... would you rather every two bit thug who can hire some russian chemists aquire nukes? Because you don't like the US's foreign policy we should have nuclear arms races all around Asia? Are you pro-nuclear weapons? A good case can be made for having nuclear weapons... its prevented a major war with Russia and China in the past, and they're now essentially allies, but do you want to give them to every crazy despot who's just as likely to bomb their own ethnic groups?
I'm pro-nobody gets nuked... and nobody is... but with nuclear weapons falling into the hands of unstable dictatorships like Iran or Syria, a nuclear weapon is likely to go off In Tehran, Beirut, Damascius, or Tal Aviv... I'm not living in any of these places, so I gotta say I'm pro-nobody gets nuked, which is a very clear and present danger if if these unstable countries aquire nuclear weapons. The US may do vested things in its own intrest, but we're not the Sudan. If nuclear weapons we're to fall into sudanese hands, they would likely be used aginst their own population to make the country 'whiter'. Our opinions on the US's foreign policy are irrelevant, there are nations on the Earth who must be kept from this technology at all costs.
All Nukes ought to be banned. The US uses them in every war. Iraq is having quite a high number of deformed babies, not to mention the returned soldiers, sick with radiation poisoning. Cancer rates have soared. Check out "depleted uranium" bombs (I rekon they ought to be called "deceptive uranium" bombs as the cover up is huge on this.) They leave behind high level radiation with a half life of 4.5 billion years . Do a search and see the deformed babies. If that's not enough to make you sick and want to ban all nukes, I don't know what else to do. Power-mongers on this earth are absolutely M.A.D.
If we give up nukes, some third world nation with a chip on its sholder will make us its bitch. It's a mexican standoff, motherfucker. Nuclear weopns hold the power of God, and it's a Pandora's box that once opened cannot be shut again. That said, North Korea was willing to give up its nuclear weopns program; the US violated the treaty first, not them. The North Koreans were even willing to make further sacrafices just so that the US would give what it had originaly promised. Also, you don't have to be so worried about Kim Jun getting pissed at South Korea one day and nuking them. Kim Jun knows that as soon as one of his nukes hit the ground in another country, he's dead. Any nuclear launch would be suicide, and would be used only as a last resort; ever hear of Mutually Assured Destruction? Th U.S. would not risk getting hit with a nuclear attack, and North Korea knows this. This is the purpose for North Korea having nuclear wepons.
Right on man! I would not give them up if I was Korea. You'd have to be an idiot not to learn from such recent history. The US insisted on disarming Iraq before they bomded it...and got the UN to f#cking co-operate in its attempts. I can scarcely believe the audacity of such a thing. The US violates international law all the time and gets away with it. And AannaSolo - yes, its horrific...thanks for that info!
