You did know you where signing in to shoot at people. That's what Marines do, and that's a strong enough reason not to join, in my opinion.
Moony has the right to his own narrow minded opinion. Obviously he didn't read my other posts and I no longer care if this is offensive because it's a strong topic that allows the release of others who support that killing is wrong. So by all means, call me another name, I've heard it all.
Your judging Marines as a whole, forgetting that every single one of us is an individual person and just because we signed up doesnt mean we all love to kill. Like I said before, many of us feel we made a mistake joining but now we have to learn from that mistake and do our time or get out dishonorably...
yep, everyone's gotta learn from their mistakes. But seriously, how the hell does joining the military ever seem like a good idea? Military = WAR
I once saw a comic strip about a dead guy going to the gates of heaven waving flags and supporting the military and such. The angel said "What about thou shall not kill didn't you understand?"
exactly. All these christian conservatives are all for the death penalty, war, etc. yet they claim to be moral christians? Signing up for military = Signing up for wear, death, genocide, murder
Wars are shams nowadays.. Anyone dumb enough to want to join the military deserves to be in it. Are government is fucked, realize it. There are ways to better the world and joining the military is definetly not one of them at this point in time. That said i do respect all people who join because i know many in the service, it just says something about there intelligence. How about instead of spending trillions of dollars on weapons and defence each year we instead spend it feeding clothing and educating the poor of the world which it would many times over and we can as one race explore space, both inner and outter, forever, in peace. ~ Bill Hicks
so true. And spending money on important things instead of war? What an idea! too bad the powers that be don't get it.
the problem with the idea of spending money on things other than war, is war generates profits...pure and simple. It's an exchange of human life for resources. Land, oil, a new market for goods....it's all resources, and so long as our society is profit driven, war is going to be around, as it's the fastest, cheapest way to gather resources and eliminate the competition. I don't agree with it, and think it sucks, but until those in power quit chasing money and power, those of us down here are getting the cactus.
Well said again Born25, I agree war sucks and frankly I think it's stupid. While I have been sarcastic and will remain so about military, I do respect people who do join. People can't always help the cards they are dealt and unfortunately the military prides itself claiming they offer education if you join. For many- that's a seller. The truth in the matter is is that that's all the words are worth. I've known one's in the military say it's almost near impossible to get schooling like the claim states. If government or society didn't chase after power of money- what would they chase after?
Are you really only 15??? i'm impressed that you have given this as much thought as you have, and that you've thought about it from a multitude of its facets! (Here in Texas, 15 year old young men are allowed to drink beer, so :cheers2: !) Yes, each individual (wo)man who has volunteered to risk life and limb for the people in their neighborhoods, in their cities, in their states and in their nations truly do deserve ONLY our utmost respect and ANY help we can give them ~ they are people, just like us ... (well, maybe a BIT braver! ) ... that are willing to stand and fight for all of the rest of us, to protect all of the rest of us. We truly owe THEM a decent life, with whatever they need and want, for the rest of their years!
Do you think you are in any position to judge whether our government is right, wrong or in-between? Wow. You must have a pretty damned high security clearance to know all about all the different things going on, all over the world, and to have the advisors to explain to you what some it could mean. But (and it's a BIG butt! ) if you don't have all those advisors? Try reading some Tom Clancy, Robert Ludlum, John le Carre, etc. These guys know from whence they speak ~ they've actually "been there" and "done that." It really isn't as easy as it may look, being the dude that ends up having to make the decision...
Fyrenza- sorry, but reading books that have been "authorized" by the military for publishing doesn't merit much. A bit of advice to you- look deeper and you will find.
You know what? It's pretty flippin' sad to find, at the age of 54, that NONE of the schooling i received taught me ANYTHING about actually THINKING... College came the closest, but yet and still... Help me out? Direct me, a bit? i don't guarantee that i'll see things exactly the way you do, but i'm willing to listen and to give every idea consideration. Thank you!
