    To the original poster,

I completely understand the resentment you have towards your parents for attempting to force you to cut your hair. You have found your own style, and wish to continue with it since it pleases you. I too, love long hair, and had mine growing out A LOT up until before Christmas break from college (I was rockin' a Hendrix 'fro, it was the best;) ). But remember dude, your parents are not trying to destroy your looks or happiness; they're looking out for your best interests. I'm not sure if you have a job yet, but in today's day and age, most employers will make you cut your hair, since they want employees who look clean cut and like a "team" (bullshit if you ask me, the margin for individuality is decreasing in this country). Unfortunately, I ran into the same problem when I came home from college over Christmas break, and the beautiful 'fro had to fall under the blade:(. I'm growing it back out, but it's taking a while. If you're trying to act like a hippie, just remember that physical appearance does not make one a hippie- it's all about the spirituality and helping others in need. Good luck man, let me know how it turns out.

well, i guess you have to accept you're parents hoices while you are still young enough that you have to live at home, but if you're totally serias aobut growing your hair, you can try and talk to them. You can say that you are beccoming your own person and ask if you can have a trial, if after however long, they really object to you having long hair, you'll have it cut a little bit or something like that. At fifteen, you're old enough to know what you want (at least we think we do lol). But I don't know i this will work, I used to want my hair cut really short and i'm glad i didnt get it cut, but then you can always cut hair off, but you can't put it bck on again

    Update:

Well my parents kept bugging me. I'm going to get my hair cut, but not shorter. I'm just going to have one side cut so that its even (I noticed it when I was combing it), and probably have my side burns cut off. Now my dad will stop bugging me, and I can still grow my hair long. Its a win-win.

DON'T DO IT! PHYSICALLY REFUSE! HE HAS NO RIGHT TO DO THAT TO YOU! HE CAN'T PHYSICALLY MAKE YOU, CAN HE?!?!?! THIS IS SICK! And so something my dad would do.

Yeah my parents did the same thing for a while. Its not long at all(just passed ears) but I did cooperate and go in and get it trimmed slightly and thinned. Getting it thinned for me made is less wild and more acceptable for my parents.

I've heard that one so many times. I cut mine voluntarily... mostly because it was practical and we have pretty hot/humid weather in the Summer, living on the coast, too.

I can admit that I conform to a set of standards....One being hair....

I have long hair because i think it looks cool and makes other hippie type people think I am cool/ perhaps a bit better looking.......

And to show i dont agree with society on many issues

but back to the point, i see no problem with conformity.....its just what your conforming to thats the problem

This little moment in time sounds familiar. When I was 17 and about ready to exit high school, my Dad and I got into this knock down, drag out (yep, it got physical) broohaha over my hair. Wasn't really long, kept it clean and styled, and I figured, hey, I was about to turn 18 in a couple of weeks, why was he treating me like a little kid when I was only days from being legally an adult? Well, my Dad didn't need a good reason to be bull headed, just drunk enough. After all the hitting and shouting I walked out of the house, swearing to never return, and I didn't...for a least three months. I had to return (special circumstances) and although we never talked about the incident again, I did stay at home until I was able to move on with my life better. The one thing that I wish that he had done, instead of demanding at me was treat me with a bit more respect. Part of what a Dad is responsible for is developing his kids, not always dictating to. Yep, there are rules kids need to follow during their developing years (and 16 is in that window at the upper end), but mutual respect has to be followed by both parties. He may not be doing his part very well, but neither are you. Since you're the one writing this I'll tell you. Compromise, Amigo! You might as well start learning to find that middle ground that helps you deal with people better. Otherwise you'll be at loggerheads with a lot of people in life. You don't like being told what to do? Neither does anyone else, but that's what you're doing when you tell everyone to only accept what you want. Whether it's hair, a shared apartment, money or anything else, when you're dealing with others that you depend on or need to have a good working relationship with (girls definitely fall into this catagory) you'll get more from people if you say, "Let's work out something for both of us." Hair? You may not like it, but he does have some input as long as you take from him. But that doesn't give him Carte Blanc to bully you to his way, either. I suggest you go to him and strike a deal. You keep the length and the cool vibes that comes with it, and he gets it clean and styled. By your own admission it's Edward Scissorhands, so take the mature approach (he'll respect you for that) and go to him with the idea that you two can work it out. If not, leave home, join a commune, have a boo-hoo wedding to Hogetta, and vote the Green ticket (yes, that was a pun). Ciao my friend. Good luck!
