lmao. i had that with some of mine too. it seems like theres no way they could lock, but they do. i ended up with a super huge crazy loop in the loose spot. id say my dreads were around a year old when it knotted up. i also have thick, coarse hair that knots very slowly. my dreads have taken a long time to get where they are... i see many dreadheads at 10 months who have tighter, more together looking locks than me at 2 years. before i started my dreads, i went about 6 months without brushing my hair and just washing with natural soap, not a single knot formed. my hair was about 7-8 inches i think. now ive seen people with 3 month old naturals that are amazing and look like they were backcombed 6 months before. but that just would not happen with my hair type.
ok amy i have 1inch bits in my hair UNDREADED!! About 5 of them in random places, some in the middle the end etc,the rest of the hair is dreaded, above and below! I can poke my finger through the bits haha. They have always been there and
oops in answer to your question I think that 'sometimes' knots will never form but all dreadheads are individual. I can only speak for myself.
oh&whats faps?! and yah, Amy your head does seem to work overtime! I don't care if my loose bits don't knot. You learn to love yourself as you are. Same w your hair
No but I mean the people patiently waiting for their hair to just start knotting, totally naturally with no prompting...like your man for example. Do you think there's a point after which, if no knots happen, they never will, and that some people just go on waiting forever?
Just re-read the original post for the first time since you wrote it I think. 3.5 years?! And with curly hair that's clearly prone to craziness and looks like it would be perfect dready hair. You'd think in all that time it would take more than an occasional absent-minded running through his hair with his fingers to prevent knots developing. It doesn't take that many tangles to start catching other hairs and drawing them in. There really must be some hair types which will not dread naturally. Is there anyone here who went down the natural route who, if after 3.5 years still had hair as shown above, would not be a little discouraged?
exactly Amy. If your saying my husband was a 'secret comber' or was pulling at it in the shower or whatever else was suggested then maybe some who say their dreads are natural are secretly backcombing/rip&twisting
if I had decided to go the natural route and waited patiently for 3.5 years, well in saying that there is no way I would have that kind of patience, I can't imagine anyone who would!!?
with that ladies... cheers... you have good points.. and i dont mean to bias just because im a little frustrated of mine.. hhahahaha..
The first time I was reading about the different methods I read that natural took 1 year, I couldn't bear thinking about that amount of time to wait let alone 3.5 years!!
i dunno if that bit was directed at me or someone else but you seem kind of like a hostile person. have a beer. i would say that if you are going the neglect route then there is no time to start backcombing. if you want instant dreads, go to a salon. but if you want neglect dreads, just neglect em. some of you guys get worked up over nothing :cheers2:
