Do inhalants ACTUALLY cause brain damage?

    i wasn't talking about mixing bleach and ammonia. i'm talking about n2o vs. no2

    no2 is a poisonous gas
    n2o is nitrous oxide, laughing gas

    HUGE difference

    Bleaching powder, is not bleach...
    In order to do this, you have to pour them together over ice.. here..>>

    • Lower the temperature of the bleach solution by adding ice also into the container and allowing it to cool.
    • Pour 10 ml of the acetone (to maintain a ratio of 1: 50, one part acetone to fifty parts of bleach) into the container.
    • Add some more ice to keep the temperature low. Replacing the cubes that have already melted will ensure this. The bleach must be kept cool as otherwise it will emit fumes of bleach and chloroform.
    • Keep aside for 20 minutes to ensure complete reaction. In a while clouding up can be seen with an increase in temperature.
    • Allow time for the reaction to settle. This will take about half an hour, but if after this time also the solution does not appear to be settling, a stir will help.
    • Once settled, you will see either be a white powder residue or a bubble at the bottom. This is chloroform.
    • Pour the solution out with care ensuring that no powder or bubble leaves the container.
    • Now, the pure chloroform, which remains in the glass container, can be extracted with a separation funnel.

      it will evaporate really quick btw..
    Ideally, this article should be read for academic interest only. Avoid trying to make this chemical compound at home or anywhere else, unless you are authorized to do so and you follow established procedures and guidelines relating to usage of chemical, safety, etc. Making chloroform is discouraged as the hazards of exposure to phosgene, used in chemical weapon...

    by adding methanol or methyl alcohol to the chloroform, keeping in a dark jar away from light, will prevent phosgens from forming..
    Or you can just buy it from a chemical dealer. They dont really ask if you buy small amounts.. Its consumer regulated..

    I'd think that it does. but I'm not too fond of the idea of huffing anything for the shady headache high.

    I find it strange that something much more common can cause braing damage, i.e. Gas, Acetone, Bleach, etc.

    This whole thread is stupid. I can't believe the OP would even ask such a strange and stupid question. Inhalant=oxygen deprivation=ischemia.

    There really isnt any safe inhalants.. Even Nitrous oxide even though not directly by oxygen deprivation but it still can happen, but a fall and sticking the head on something, falling through a glass table, bumping into a lamp then a fire while your passed out for a while..the list goes on.

    There is intoxicating effects to some inhalants that will hang with the user, due to the heavy weight of the gas, solvent ect.., it may stay in the lower lung cavity til the user tips at least 45degrees. Where your mouth is lower than your lungs.. Only then are your lung free of the inhalant as you exhale..
    If you know chemistry you can see some solvents properties in drugs like anitdepressants and ssris. Its kinda creepy.. fluorocarbons and fluoridated gasses like duster..

    Are you sure that isn't the same logic people use when they say "THERES METHAMPHETAMINE IN MDMA"? Though that is pretty creepy... BRAINWASHING OF THE MASSES:D

    After doing a bit of research on SSRI's though, it does seem unnatural the way they work (by inhibiting your serotonin reuptake, when that could be very detrimental to your brain, since the first SSRI was only around since 1970 they COULD potentially have some serious side effects later in life, not to mention all the nasty immediate side effects they give you).

    Wellbutrin (a norepenephrine and dopamine reuptake inhibitor) seems like a much much safer, better alternative without any bad side effects.
