I can dig that Lostminty. From a Jungian perspective the country has its own collective unconscious, we have our shadow (dark side), actually many shadows, that is part of the collective psyche. Even with Bush----however moronic he is and however much he has screwed up the country, we really have ourselves to blame as a collective psyche, and that psyche has a history that helps shape how it reacts and proacts.

But the problem is, there is also a cycle to how things work. Sometimes the cycle is late, other times it is dead on. It's a wierd thing, but it is there. I am a long-haired hippy freak stockbroker---a true product of the Jerry Rubin led Baby Boomers. (Though I may have to actually get a haircut to look like I actually follow THE MAN, with the job security in these trying times. Oh yeah, I am not a true commission-based broker----so I don't try to sell anyone's grandma to make a commission. So I don't compromise my ethics per se...)

The current economic crisis we are in, is a case in point---it is part of a cycle that happens every other decade. But we also have no one else to blame but ourselves. It is a hubris for spending beyond our means, and making money too easily off of speculation, and all the other elements that came to be. Maybe some of you were off the grid, and self sustained living within your own means---but America collectively is to blame----there were many mistakes. The government has made some key ones over the last year. But for every mistake you can point to---you can find one on the other side of the fence too. The war in Iraq is part of one of the cycles that brought us to this point as well----the Kondratiev Wave (or Kondatriev, or Kondratieff----something like that). When we're at the top of the wave---we have long drawn out wars like Iraq, and Vietnam. When we are at the bottom, we have short victorious ones like the first conflict in Iraq. You can check it out on the internet... It is amazing how cycles work and fall into place.

Having said that---there are aspects of the shadow that we have no concept of----study the history of the CIA and you will find that all those problem spots sround the world, were basically of our own making---all the manipulations in third world politics has backfired left and right. But to get back to a Jungian perspective on lostminty's comments----our conscious mind whose perceptions are filtered through the ego, tends not to really understand or know the workings of our shadow----and this has to be true in a collective nation psyche as well.
