they said the exhaust would pretty much need completely replaced.

so as of today, my car is no longer road legal. inspection ran out today.

got three people currently interested in it though. i put the price at $500 in the ad.

here's a new one with pictures.

If it's "time to take her off the road" why would anyone buy it?

Don't put that in the ad. The pics are definitely much better than no pics but it would help to remove the snow (if someone is hiding shit under shit like snow I'm gonna keep it moving with the ads) and wipe down the dash / steering area you take pics of. It looks MADDD dusty! The car can be in bad working condition but if it looks like it reeks then why spend my time taking a look at it? Sure someone can easily clean it up but why would I want to pick out someones old nasty french fries and wipe down human dander? Gross dude.

Other than that, not bad. It's good that you're listing the negative aspects - as you need to be honest. But lets be real, you are trying to sell this thing right? List the good points about it too.

How do I know this? I've had 15 cars in my life. Bought and sold them all myself.

Gross. Then I wouldn't buy it. Why would someone waste their time when they can find something just as broken down that has been cleaned well.

Can't lie in the ad and say "Clean and well maintained" When its caked with dust.

I agree with this advice. You should wash down the rusted area. Seal it and spray paint it the color of your car. Make the car look as good as possible, thats how you are going to get the most of out of it.

Because anyone who buys it will likely buy it for parts. If it's for a cheap enough price, who cares about dust?

    and there you have it.

i'm not gonna waste my time making the car immaculate so that some junk yard can buy it for 500 bucks or less.

this car is likely to not be able to pass inspection. that's why it's time to take her off the road, or figure out a way to make it pass yourself.

if i get can get 400 or more for it i'll be happy. cleaning the dash is not gonna get me more. and yeah, i can brush off the snow, another day.

i've had about 5 emails about it tonight already. someone said they will tow it away for 400

Interior is clean (in terms of no serious damage to the trim/upholstery), and underhood looks good.

I'd knock it up to $1,000. See what you get offered. That engine and trans are worth that alone if the engine isn't knocking or burning/leaking fluids and the trans isn't slipping.

It's a shame cars rust that bad up north. But you could part out the engine/trans and interior for over $1,000 easy.

I put one of my bikes for sale on craigslist recently. It's all in pieces, I was bobbing it but have too much going on. Frame sitting on the floor and the engine on a stand. The rest of it in crates. I got so many emails and emails from people offering to trade me AR-15s and shit I decided to keep it and finish it. I had it up there for $350 just to get it out of my way but apparently there is a bigger demand than I realized for japanese v-twin bikes.

Change the price to $1,000. Then at least you have some wiggle room.

    Who cares what they saw.

I sold a tahoe on there that was super clean for like $5k over blue book. I got all kinds of emails yelling at me and I was just like.. go fuck yourself, it's my truck I'll sell it for what I want. Don't want it, don't buy it.

i've always rode my bicycle to work and to places within rochester, other than the grocery store. but my wife usually goes there, and she has a car too.

so for now i'm gonna go without a car. and keep my eyes open for one that's decent and sorta cheap

i might change it again to $999 OBO or 1 Bitcoin :)

If you want to drive/hitch/train to florida, I can find you a decent car for cheap.

And it won't be falling apart from rust ;)

of course you can, its called a bidding war.

simply say, you priced it too low and received a ton of offers which indicated that the market value is higher.

Edit: and if they don't want to pay for the good value they're receiving they can fuck off.

Also, don't jump at the first offer. People will try to wear you down. I've had a team of guys calling me, offering me their bullshit as they worked together to get my car thousands of dollars under market value. They worked for a dealership. Not saying a dealership is going to contact you for your car, but there are hustlers out there.

Any cheap car up there is going to done with rust already.

I get solid cars all the time for $200-400, they just need a head gasket, trans, fuel pump or the like. And the person doesn't want to put $1,500-$2,000 into it.

I'll fix it and give you the hf discount, plus you like built to spill. You can be in something decent for $1,000-1,500 easy.

You just have to get here and bring a tag. We'll make up a bill of sale in case you get pulled, tell them you are taking it back to NY to title.

i'll see if i can find a side of the road dealer that can locate a car from down south. i'd rather pay a little more for him to do that leg work
