Absolutely! most of the time I'm ashamed to be a member of the human race, but as pathetic a species we are, I still hold some hope that just maybe we can get our shit together, At least the last ones left once we're an endangered species
No I don’t hate people, how can I hate what I am? We should strive to be better but that could take another millennium Hotwater
Most people are wonderful on a personal basis. I can get along with just about anyone if I meet them in a relaxed environment. People turn into big shitheads under two (maybe more) situations: 1)In mass groups and 2)when these people turn from humans into customers waiting to be served and you're the one waiting on their ass.
I am at times dissapointed and at others euphoric Although I have not fully defined what hate is personally Great man once told me, Knowing yourself means knowing how you will react.
I actually find it a lot easier to hate myself than I do to hate most other people... I don't think the human race will ever get better... if it hasn't improved in countless thousands of years, then I think our species is a lost cause.
I don't hate people per se...as in, I don't hate the shell they reside in. I just hate the souls that inhabit those shells No, just kidding...I don't hate people...I just think they are getting dumber and more arrogant.
I don't think it really has, no. All the very negative traits of humans (like greed, selfishness, lust for money/power, sadism, one upmanship, vanity, low level of tolerance for those different to yourself, discrimination, etc...) that have always been present in human nature, are all still very much in abundance today. In some places on the surface it may seem like things have improved, but scratch the surface, and the ugly underbelly of humanity is never far away. Certainly in my experience (and observation) at least, the vast majority of humans have at least some of the characteristics I described above. I think the idea that the human species is more tolerant, less violent and more civil than in times past could be argued. But even so, humanity has always had a dark heart, and there's not really any evidence to suggest that is something that is ever going to go away. Or even grow considerably less in the forseeable future.
"We were born of risen apes, not fallen angels, and the apes were armed killers besides. And so what shall we wonder at? Our murders and massacres and missiles, and our irreconcilable regiments? Or our treaties whatever they may be worth; our symphonies however seldom they may be played; our peaceful acres, however frequently they may be converted to battlefields; our dreams however rarely they may be accomplished. The miracle of man is not how far he has sunk but how magnificently he has risen. We are known among the stars by our poems, not our corpses." - Robert Ardrey One of my favorite mankind's glass is half-full quote
Since evolution doesn’t seem to be in any hurry; our hope lies with science and our understanding of the human gnome. Perhaps through biological intervention we can speed up the process of evolution by eliminating certain traits (or better yet) triggering certain traits which have remained dormant for millions of years and are ready to be awoken Hotwater
I have no confidence that the powers that be will use science and understanding of the human genome for the greater good and the benefit of all mankind. Even if there came a day when all the negative traits of humanity could technically be eradicated, would they actually be? I fear the powers' that be's views on what constitutes negative traits would be different from what actually are negative traits. I think any human trait that has laid dormant for thousands of years should probably remain that way. @Meliai: That is a beautiful poem. Being personally surrounded by mostly very negative human traits all my life has made me very cynical about the human race. Not to mention all the horrors I see outwith my own personal life. I fear that the more things change, the more they stay the same. And the irony of that poem is that these days, some apes probably exhibit more humanity (the positive sort) than some actual humans do. There are of course, some positive human traits... shame I have seen them very rarely exhibited myself.
If we simply stand around and wait for evolution to take its course we’ll destroy ourselves long before the great moment of enlightenment when all mankind suddenly and irrevocably understands, everything. Hotwater
