Nope, and all this hand waving and squeaky voices do my head in i hate it when people sterotype as all gays having a lisp and doing the stupid wrist thing. but for me, i think i'd end up running a mile if i had a boyfriend with that...personality.
well, now, i voted no, but i'm a girl. i have a natural tendency to lisp a little when i'm trying to flirt. sometimes it's charming. other times i boom out my opinions like a proper mom. depends on who i'm talking to. but when i'm trying to get into someone's pants, i definitely go all breathy and precious.
My voice is kind of high pitched and I hate that, it's not really obvious, but it's still higher than I'd like. No lisp though.
if i record my voice and play it back..i think i would definately question if i was gay... im sure people do. im one of the kids where people have to keep guessing. im an enigma muahaha
I'm kind of the same. I think my voice is normal as can be... it's pretty deep. But if I listen to myself on an answering machine or in a video I can have some gay inflections in my voice. I dunno if I do in person or not.
I don't have a gay lisp, and I don't think I'd want one, either. I think that people should just be themselves...and if their lisp is normal, well, use it. But if they don't have a lisp, they shouldn't ever get one. Linguists have found that some gay people "code switch" with the lisp...they don't normally have it, but when with their gay friends, they talk with it. I don't know how I feel about this...perhaps it's okay if it's okay with their friends, but it does seem a bit unnatural to me.
that is a good question. i don't think i have one because i am not feminine. i am not feminine nor masculine. my friends always tell me that i talk with my hands a lot but they never say anything about me sounding or talking gay. i sure hope not. i want to sound normal!!
I'd honestly assume most guys here have something resembling a lisp or at least a distinctively gay manner of speaking, whether you realize it or not. I voted "not sure" because, well, I'm not sure. No one has ever commented on it. And if I did have something, I'm certainly not as bad as some well-known queens at my school. I've never taped myself speaking either. I'd guess it's pretty subtle for me if there at all.
I gesticulate a lot too. Being gay, partly Italian, and from New Jersey, I just can't help it. But seriously... why would you want to sound normal? I mean, I know that a lot of stereotypically gay voices are annoying, but that doesn't cover the whole gamut of them.
No but i meet plenty of people with it. I dont understand why they do it or how it happens but it bothers the shit outta me
So, where did it come from, the lisp? I've heard guys who had what I guess might have been a "Gay Lisp". Whats the difference between a gay or straight lisp? I've heard people affect a "gay lisp", often people who are stereotyping gay speech. You said you worked hard to get rid of yours. Was it always there? Did you learn to use the lisp because "thats the way gay people are supposed to talk" ? Just curious. Thanks, Steve
