People tend to be small minded and feel the need to categorize everything under the sun to make sense of this crazy ol' world we live in....including me, sometimes its just easier to call myself a hippie than explain that I am who i am because of the music i listen to, my political stance, the fact that I'm more comfortable barefoot in the woods than anywhere else....hippie just kinda encompasses all those traits. I dont dress like a hippie and i still have complete strangers calling me a hippie so i think its more of a vibe you put out. dress the way you want to dress and believe in the things you want to believe in and don't worry about the labels
I agree completely. It happens to me too. I've been called hippie since 9th grade, just because of all that. But I never dressed like one. So, just wear whatever you like. If you feel it in your heart, then you're a hippie
I want to take some old jeans and make some bell bottoms. Might still be able to order them from Levi's catalogs? My brothers friend used to.
I have this problem too. My mom and dad were original hippies. They both called my a hippy and made me kinda confused. My (now ex) bestfriend was a huge hippy but i never considered myself one. I was always into neon, bright, drastic, wonderful colors. I normally wore them in my hair, and not on my shirt lol so i guess no, it doesn't matter what your "style" of clothing is, just the aditude
^ Yeah don't forget these song lyrics: "If you're going to San Francisco Don't forget to put some flowers in your hair," Scott MacKensie "She had Scarlet Begonias tucked into her curls I could tell right away she was not like other girls," the Greatful Dead Peace Out, Rev J
However, Flowers in the Hair was also popular in 1945. Again reminding us that it is all period costuming. BTW that's my Grandma and Mom.
Shale, that picture is awesome...I love old pictures. Women in the 40s had so much class! I also love the picture of the hippie chick adorned with flowers, thats what I look like when I go camping and there are flowers to be found, lol.
Sweet pea, you just wear what you feel. If you think that what your feeling is best expressed by love beads, a peasant blouse and a broom skirt or bell bottoms, then wear that. But, if you want to wear low rise jeans and a shirt from Hot Topic to show how you feel, then do that. Be true to yourself and don't be afraid to show what you feel. If you think certain clothes will help you show that, then okay. But, DO NOT let anyone tell you how to feel or how to express those feelings. You make your choices for you. Be that change honey and it will all come together.
if any hippie tells you that you have to dress a certain way to be considered a hippie, that's not a real hippie in my book.
Dizz, You're first sentence speaks volumns. Look, Little Sis/Bro... It is not about what you wear. Believe me when I tell you that sixties children were 'carefree', and we did not give not One Damn about what others would say about us... And we Really didn't care about corporate and military with its environmentally destructive products and meme viruses. Peace and Love, absolutely did NOT originate with hippies. We just turned on and tuned out the social programmings. Love and Peace, Big Sis
