Nope I think Britain and many of its people are a joke. "Loving your country" just sounds like a concept invented by Prick Cheney and all those clowns that went before him. However thats not to say that I don't have contempt for alot of the shit I see in other countries. Not wishing to be xenophobic but alot of foreigners I just find to be a pain up the arse. Am I "British" in outlook?Well Britain is actually many different groups. The only thing they have in common is a hatred for each other. Characteristically I think I'm part non-British in attitude- due to my non British genetics. But compared to say France/ Sweden/ whatever - I'm "very British". If that remotely makes sense?
BSR, you're not American? I love NZ. It's fair, not too populated, no (real) racism, safe, clean and green
Any place that has a "national anthem" like Britain's, I just can't take seriously. When I go to an England match, its not that I sometime want England to win. Its more that I want the foreigners to lose by more.
It's just a piece of land and if I had to live here for the rest of my life, I would contemplate hanging myself.
I love my country because I grew up here and am attached to it. I just can't help it. I also think the Netherlands are generally on the right track for a country as a whole, but I'm quite sure that's not where my love comes from, that's just an extra very likeable aspect. Of course there are also things not to love, but it's not some kind of decision for me. I just feel really in place here because it's intertwined with my life so far and probably because I'm really adjusted to it. I don't feel patriotic in any way. I love lots of other countries as well but that feeling you (sometimes ) get when you get home again makes me feel that I love my country indeed.
Israel is the only place for Jews. It's not really a matter of "best". The Arabs want us out, but we're staying. They'll die in the process... which is unfortunate.
I really like some of the replies in this thread. I think that some of them will also help Birdy understand that loving a country isn't necessarily a display of weakness. Fuck no!
You're 24, right? Can't you get your own place? haha.. That's rubbish! I thought every country has a cheesy national anthem.
Not NZ: E Ihowa Atua, O nga iwi matou ra Ata whakarongona; Me aroha noa Kia hua ko te pai; Kia tau to atawhai; Manaakitia mai Aotearoa
BollocksDogs have personalities acc to breed/genes.So why can't people? (Starts list of British Asians genetic characteristics...) Dunno. But nowhere can have one as crap as "God save the Queen".I mean fuck, its like people volunteering to be gimps and going round on dogleads and shit, like on Eurotrash.(which ok most politicians probably do anyway) Atleast if Graham Norton was Queen, it'd be funny...
yes i do love my country. beautiful coast lines, forests, moorland, lots of wildlife, places which i find extremly beautiful and inspiring. theres so much to like and so many different things to see. people dont make a country and niether does a goverment, that's not what england is. england is the rolling green hills and rugged coasts. the natural world makes a country a beautiful place, so i can safely say yes. my country is beautiful.
I said country! I think it's more environmental than genetic. Sure there's some things that are, but it won't make you dislike England. If you didn't know, if you thought you were english then I doubt you would have the same view. Similar, but not quite the same. :cheers2:
Word, I'm in love with those aspects of England too. Actually, it's one of the things I'm kind of missing in the Netherlands. Sure we have some nature reservations but they're laughable small. Ah well, our country is too so it's kind of inevitable.
