I do not own any guns and I am indifferent to this situation; if presented with the opportunity to buy a gun illegally for very cheap I would absolutely do so, but because of my prior convictions as a felon I am, for now at least, unable to legally obtain one. As far as home invasion is concerned, it's been attempted at our (that is, Aura - acuarela - and my) home once while she was at home with our daughter and once when we were not home (although this was supposedly an attempted break into the upstairs apartment, utilizing the roof that is directly in front of our kitchen, dining room, bathroom and one bedroom windows) and neither has been successful, Aura even thwarted the one by a lucky 'mistake', lol. In years past I've lived in neighborhoods that most here would likely be afraid to even drive through, and I've had more trouble here in a supposedly 'safe' neighborhood than in the grimiest of ghettos. If anyone were to successfully break into my home while I am there, I feel confident that I'd go berserk and be able to kill or at least severely maim them with what available 'simple' weapons I do have readily accessible so long as they themselves are not armed with guns (and if they are, c'est la vie), and in all situations that I've found myself in while out and about where I felt threatened (one in particular comes to mind, when I was surrounded by 5 drunk black guys who thought to confront me on how I was dressed) I've stood up, remarkably to myself, without fear and have been prepared without hesitation to be destroyed and never felt the need to have had a gun, only the anger afterwards at not having been able to make people cower before me and beg for forgiveness, which upon further reflection would only serve to then fill me with shame for having fulfilled such a pathetic, primal urge. I am often insulted and verbally abused when I go out for how I decide to dress on occasion and sometimes am even physically threatened, and yet I feel no need to protect myself with anything but my own courage and self confidence, something which has only been a recent development in me over the past decade (I used to tremble at the slightest suggestion of altercation). It is probably for the best that I do not own a gun, and if I ever wind up with one in the future, I will force myself to leave it at home.

Yea I forgot to mention I am not allowed to own a gun for the same reason either. I am not against having one but I'd be paranoid about getting caught by probation or something w it in the house... so for the time being the tazer (and bat) for protection is fine with me... if I ever truly felt I needed one though for protection I could get one really fast and I wouldn't be against doing so but at the current moment I see no reason to take that risk.

*oh and on that note... technically my husband DOES own three guns ... rifles that is but yea, guns ... because when he was younger he would hunt... but they are stored at his dad's house because he is also not allowed a gun here. but we could go get them at anytime.
actually his dad's house I've been thinking about a lot lately.. it's up in the mountains and is almost off the grid ..with not only the weapons there but his dad has been prepping for about ten yrs now (whereas we haven't been doing it for that long and probably only have a years worth of supplies and plus we're no in the middle of no where so would prolly have to leave here...) and there is about 50 yrs of food and supplies (medicine, water, etc) in the basement... so that is my bug out spot if and when the time comes..

I also keep a Louisville Slugger under my bed. I highly doubt I would ever need to use any of my weapons though. I have 3 dogs any intruder would have to get through first.

I never understood preppers. At least, that is, the ones who store a fuck ton of stuff at their place. Being mobile is the best chance of survival in pretty much any scenario so why you would want to tie yourself to one location is beyond me.

yep, got my bats on both sides of the bed and sleep beside the tazer and have other weapons stored elsewhere. I'm not sure what I think I'm afraid of. It's not unsafe here... but I have had places I lived in broken into and been robbed at gun point before... of course they knew there were drugs and money to break in for and here there is neither of those things... but being at home with a toddler I do think about what I'd do were someone to get in here...

Yeah, you have to be able to bug out... like LEAVE and have a plan for that to do QUICK but it's also good to be able to stay inside... if there was say, a flu pandemic circa 1918 or something like that...

but anyways, for Christmas (because my father in law gets good prepping supplies) that is all I'm asking him for... freeze dried foods, more antibiotics, etc..

and as for him prepping at his house... you'd have to understand where he lives... I can get to it in less than two hours from here but he has no neighbors... he's on a mountain... the only other houses nearby are hunting cabins. It would be a good place to hide if there is mass chaos. And there are natural, clean water supplies all around the place also..
but I can guarantee you he's ready if he would need to bug outta THERE as well...

(but yea my father in law could be on one of those shows.. he's hardcore w the prepping... the gardens, the food, water, medicines, weapons, silver and gold, sanitation supplies, all of it...)

That's all the reason you need. I don't do any of it out of fear. More like being proactive. I'd rather have weapons and not need them, than need them and not have them.

I had a guy with a grudge against me point a gun at me from 3 feet and say OK (last name here) ,you've had it. He lowered it to look and see if it was loaded(it wasn't his) and I used the only usefull method at my disposal at the time. My feet did their duty. Next time I saw him, I gave him a serious lesson in the art of left jab, right cross delivery. Nap city.

Two of my favorites are the Ruger 10-22 and the aforementioned Hi Point 9 short rifle. We use 40 rounders in the 22, and the Hi Point takes a 10 round. Never checked to see if they make a mag that holds more for the 9, in the after-market.

The majority of them are from his father. It was his only "inheritance" when he passed. His father was a big gun enthusiast.

He also has a couple guns that he brought back from a place he probably shouldn't have brought them back from. Anyways, those guns aren't functioning, or at least he doesn't want to know if they are. They just sit in the cabinet.

When I was in my most involved with guns/shooting, a close friend had what most of you would consider a "gun-nut" collection of firearms.

    Small arms:
    Springfield Armory 1911 .45
    S&W 5906 9mm
Ruger Bisley single action revolver-.44 magnum (lot's o' fun :D)
    I believe a Hi-Mark (?) .22 target pistol
    S&W 586 .357 magnum 6" barrel
    Thompson Center Contender with barrels in;
.22 LR, .45 long colt, .44 magnum, .223, and another rifle round that escapes me at the moment.
a "questionable" MAC 9, 9mm, da little green brick that can spray 50 rounds quicker than shit. (expensive little sucker to play with :p)
1851 Colt Navy Revolver .36 (blackpowder)

    Long Arms:
Mossberg 870 12 gauge (two of them, one for skeet, one assault)
    Remington 1100 12 gauge semi-auto
    Remington 700 in .308 Winchester
Colt AR-15 (purchased a month before the ban)
    Some flavor of AK-47
    Sharps .50 cal Blackpowder replica
    Ruger 10-22
Winchester Model 1894 lever action chambered for .45 long colt
    and a couple others I don't recall.
that was around 25 years ago, I'm sure his collection has grown :p

He isn't some nut case or psycho, he just grew up hunting and sport shooting and adopted gun collecting as his hobby.

    I wish!
I would love to get my hands on an original Thompson A-1 SMG, with the drum magazine of course!:drool5:
Just for the fun of it.

Although we did have some success with the AR and trying some quasi full-auto modifications, and the MAC 9, well let's just say there was a good reason it was questionable and could unload 50 rounds reaaallly fast. ;)

p.s. unloading 50 rounds full auto from something the size and weight of a brick is a helluva lot harder in reality than in the movies, just sayin'

My gun usually shoots blanks. Or at least misses any target.
