I've got a .40 S&W, she's pretty cute. And a couple more back in the desert I've inherited, but I live in the city in some apartments, so I don't really want/need them. I do like having something though, people are unpredictable.
I have never owned a firearm. Never saw the reason. I honestly believe those who think they need a gun are insecure in some way. Imagine how much insecurity could be eradicated if less people owned guns.
I already mentioned this in another thread, but I'll say it again. Where I live, we have no gun restrictions, and we can conceal carry without a permit. We also have one of the lowest crime rates in the country. We're also pretty damn secure.
I have a shotgun and I am getting a pistole along with my conceal carry. We are allowed to open carry here with a permit also.
^^^awesome. Even though I'm not a huge fan of Taurus guns, I think this is going to be my next arms purchase. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4H5GepjBRsM&feature=youtube_gdata_player
I honestly believe that every human being presently alive is insecure in some way. I'd also suggest that opinions can easily and immediately be changed with experience; what you think yourself above today may be beneath you tomorrow should you suffer enough.
The last "mass shooting" in our area wasn't even with a gun. Some dude hit up the college with a crossbow. Red neck as hell. Moral of the story: if someone really wants to cause harm, they will find a way to do so with or without a gun.
And in Canada where it is illegal to carry a gun with you, we have much lower rates of violent crime. It's not that simple.
Probably. Luckily, someone had their gun and stopped him from doing more damage with the weapon he had.
Those are both the same illogical methods of analysis coming to opposite conclusions. Crime is caused by poverty and several other social and demographic factors, not by access to guns in one way or the other.
Can you elaborate? Also, I mostly agree with the rest of your statement. It's an argument nobody wins. Everyone has their reasons for their stance on guns.
And like I said, I'm a Texan. Bang Bang. About crime being caused by poverty? Most crime is opportunistic and recidivist based. Someone in a struggling neighborhood commits a crime for financial gain. When they get punished, they get permanent criminal records, can never get good jobs, and the cycle repeats. And most violent crimes committed by strangers are during the course of another crime. And some of that is opinion, but that correlation is extremely easy to back up statistically. And joblessness is an even higher contributor. And if you were to say that they should get jobs, I agree, but it's in many cases extremely difficult. Most of the rest of crime is caused by too much testosterone. Don't get me wrong, I love the stuff, but it does contribute to aggression. Having better access to jobs and schools can mitigate that too.
