If a group of people FEEL that they can't get a fair deal in a general population school (and it's a fact that historically, black people have NOT been treated fairly in public schools) and they go and form THEIR own school for THEIR own use, it's THEIR business.

If you had been physically and then financially, and then socially subjugated for over 300 years, you wouldn't have a problem keeping other people out of your private educational institution.

Anybody feel the need to attend a Ukrainian Orthodox church, even though you are neither Ukrainian nor Orthodox?

I could not care less about there being black-only schools. It does not faze me in the least. I was simply responding to the OP's question, then to Hotwater's response to my first response.

 

While I don’t doubt that “victim mentality” plays a very active role, the examples of both subtle and overt racism are so pervasive in our society it dwarfs any real notions of “the victim mentality”

I guess you're thinking of historically black colleges. These were colleges set up to provide a place for black students to attend when they're weren't allowed in other colleges.

White people are welcomed to attend.

i have no trouble with private schools catering primarily to a certain group, like catholics, jews, minorities of whatever. i prefer to have my daughter in an integrated school, though. don't want her getting all excited when she sees someone who doesn't look like her.

Sure, you might have a point if you totally ignore history and the social standing of black people, ie, if you were ignorant. You're right, if a school did that for white people, it would be racist, and there's a reason for that.

Basically I agree with everything Pressed_Rat has said on this thread so far.And I'm not even referring to schools but in many areas.I just highlighted this quote of his because it is so true.The bleeding heart mentality of some people(and of course the media) has caused nothing but problems for everyone.

 

Rat ignores a ton of social factors and historical events when he makes his comments though. He just takes things at face value, and yeah, if you do, he's right, but it's not the truth, there are reasons why black people can do things that aren't considered racist but would be if it were done by white people.

He over simplifies it.
