"They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety." -Ben Franklin

Found this quote awhile back, and I think it really applies to this situation. Far too many people are willing to compromise on privacy for the sake of a sense of 'safety' from perceived dangers now.... but fail to realise that the very measures put in place to protect them now can and most likely will be used as tools of oppression later.

    Complicated....I don't like complicated! I'm easily confused.....

Have you ever read 1984, Animal Farm, Brave New World, or Fahrenheit 451? Now THOSE scare me. They are, perhaps, exaggerated somewhat- but the dangers of totalitarianism are very clearly portrayed. I think it would be a grave mistake to dismiss the worst- case scenario with a flippant "that could never happen here...to us...."

I'm actually a big fan of that quote and think it applies completely here. It's true, and I hate when people don't question the government. For example, I was talking about the supreme court's Kelo decision (how they can now take your property for whatever reason they want)

"So now the government can take your property for whatever reason they want, whenever they want."
"Well, as long as they decide it's better for the city I guess I don't care."

It's people like that who habe been ruining and will continue to ruin this nation.

I find it truly scary that people in this country far prefer that two guys don't get married to having some guy in charge who uses the Constitution as toilet paper. The vote was about "moral values" - supposedly... e.g. lying to Congress? No problem. Illegal war? Hey! Go for it. BUT WAIT! NO ABORTION! NO GAY MARRAIGE! ARGHL

This country is what it is because of the foresight of some very selfless statesmen who designed this country to be a bastion of freedom.

Meth will never potentially replace oil and/or pulp and paper.

    Holy shit!

I really don't want this country to keep heading in such a direction that it sems to be going. National ID cards with tracking devices and such? It seems to strip us of a lagre portion of the small bit of freedom we have.

Ugh, I know it sounds nuts, but I can't help but to wonder if they have their fingers in the terrorist cells, so they can make laws like this.

I mean, they are using the fear US consumerculture has been generating in us for years (see bowling for columbine to see what I am talking about) to get away with making fascist laws, and greed to swell support for it. It seems very convienient for them. The more terrorists spread fear, the more right-wing the government swings, while movies portray psycho killers at your door, and ads sell a variety of pills for a myraid amount of ilnesses we can be afraid of.

I wouldn't be suprised if our hate-inspired president actually knows much more about the terrorists than hes letting on, or at least his goons do, and they are involved in funding them in some way, thus creating a swell of support for war for oil/money/global domination.

The thing we have to worry about the most is the fear of these IDs cowing future generations into becoming sheep. Then the amount of counterculture people begin to dwindle, and become much easier to handle.

It's scary, all I want to do is be free, but aparently there is an agenda against that. So they can make their gross amounts of money, and be safe in their mansions. Why are they afraid of people being free?

I just can't understand the minds behind this.

The best way to sell a burglar alarm is to throw a brick through someone's window the week before.

Fear is just a tool with which a few people (the administration) can manipulate and assert control over the masses. It's like McCarthyism all over again, only instead of Communists, it's Terrorists. Kinda like organized religion (Evangelism for example), "follow our agenda and you shall be saved!"

If people are free, they will question authority, and we can't have that...

No need to watch Michael Moore's propaganda to understand the fear that looms in the hearts of middle-class white Americans.

BTW, the only things that inspire our president are the same things that inspire our toddlers. That guy doesn't run shit, I refuse to believe it.

That's 'cause he has the mentality of a toddler, greed and instant gratification, screw the rest of the world, me, me, me, and no, I'm not responsible for my actions...

He doesn't run shit, Cheney and co. does, he's just a puppet like Kerry was. Why can't we get a real President or even a real Candidate for a change, one who isn't bought by the Corporations? I guess it's 'cause no one can realistically run without major financial backing from the Corporations.

Becuase the corporations and banks run the system. They would immediatley use all ther resources to stop candidates that run against the system.
