^the zombie thing is questionable. you really wouldn't know until you know how it effects you. i started lexapro the other day and so far, i'm feeling more normal (as in, how i used to feel) than i have in years... so it really depends on the person. you're always going to have some people saying it works and some who say it doesn't...

but i know you already said you were trying out zoloft. just curious is there a reason that zoloft in particular was suggested to you that the doctor told you?

good luck finding some relief though!

I can vouch for the zombie thing.

One time I took two zoloft and for three days I literally felt like a zombie.

Like I was just passing through life with no humor, no creativity, no enthusiasm. No joy.

    Most horrible experience ever.

damn, that's shitty. not uncommon. i've heard zoloft has a lot of bad effects.

i've been taking lexapro the past couple days and i feel really awake. a lot more connected and upbeat. i think lexapro is a more advanced SSRI, a little newer and more properly developed... it came secondary to celexa which is citalopram (lexapro is escitalopram). lexapro is being used in a lot of research at the moment, both for treatment of social anxiety and depression. it's side effect profile is a lot more tolerable than other SSRIs from what i understand.

only thing is i got only a few hours of shitty sleep last night and it's 2:10AM and i can't go to sleep, i'm just not tired. hope the insomnia factor eases up. oh and my pupils are dilated as fuck, i look like i'm rolling or something lol

My mom has lexapro prescribed to her for about a month.

It didn't help her at all and made her tired. Not to mention she would constantly sweat bullets.

oh yeah the sweating is pretty bad. i've heard of people getting drowsy too... it's having the opposite effect on me so far though. SSRIs are pretty tough to approach... a lot can happen.

but OP i also wanted to throw in the idea that you talk to your doctor about other possible meds, even if it's another SSRI. they might just be suggesting zoloft because they've gotten some support in some way from the makers. ever see those cute little pens or pads that have drug names on them? that's the drug company saying "hey, don't forget us!"... doctors are encouraged to support certain products much in the same way that any business would. just be wary of that when you're making your decision.

SSRIs (Prozac and Paxil, in my case) do help with social anxiety. The side effects might not be so good, but I was able to stop taking the SSRIs once I found that I had learned how to be comfortable around people. Once you learn that, you don't need drugs anymore. :)

Well it was a walk in clinic, I just moved here and I've had hell calling tryin to find a doc. that was accepting new patients, so finally said screw it and just did a walk in. He told me he was prescribing me zoloft to help with anxiety and I told him I thought those were depression meds and he said they help anxiety too. I've never taken depression meds b4 b/c I've never felt depressed. On the bright side he did say he was gonna hook me up with a psychiatrist so I dunno we'll see. This is day 4 or so on the zoloft, don't really feel much of anything so Ima roll a doobie :cheers2:

do what youd like but id advise you stop taking the zoloft and tell your doctor the combination is not working and you are still very anxious, if he believes you he will not prescribe more zoloft, he will increase the xanax ur getting or he might want you to try valium. that is what i would do

Well I am not sure if the zoloft is working, it seems to be unless it's a placebo. But I feel like doing more than sitting around too panicky to go anywhere. I'd have to say I feel pretty good compared to the past couple of months. On the down side it seems like it's affecting my sleep for the first time tonight. Trust me large there's nothing more I'd rather do than to get my doc to prescribe more xan's but as of now the zoloft seems to be working, and I can get my benzo's off the street, but as soon as I get my appointment to the pshychiatrist I will ask for more xan's. I like xannies but I'm also lookin for some relief.

i took zoloft for a while, for depression though. it seemed to work for me, or so i thought, but my boyfriend tells me now that it did make me kinda zombie like. so idk. just don't let them give you buspar or celexa, that is what i was prescribed about a month ago for anxiety and depression, and they make me feel like complete shit!

Good that you're not going to take that anti depressant bullshit, it can really fuck with you and have many undesirable side effects. I don't think the doctor will prescribe you solely xanax for long term treatment though because of its addictiveness. You might just want to say that you're taking the zoloft so you can have access to the xanax and see if the doc will up the dosage on the xanax.

I think his implication is that Heroin WD us worse than Benzo WD. And Benzo WD is worse than pill (opiates) WD.
