i actually think its the wisest thing his speach writers have written for him in a long time, that I have read anyway. Even if its not so influential on the type of people trying to intimidate blacks, it seems important
Identify with him enough to listen to a message of tolerance from him? No. Maybe if NASCAR said it. And I'm not mostly serious.
not actual hangings but using the noose as a symbol of intimidation. here is another excerpt from the AP story The Justice Department says it is actively investigating a number of noose incidents at schools, work places and neighborhoods around the country. The FBI reported in November that hate-crime incidents in the United States rose in 2006 by nearly 8 percent. Police across the nation reported 7,722 criminal incidents in 2006 targeting victims or property as a result of bias against a particular race, religion, sexual orientation, ethnic or national origin or physical or mental disability. That was up 7.8 percent from the 7,163 incidents reported in 2005.
I think black president would probably have more pull by grace of being elected then our current 'president' by the grace that some racists might think he's a good president. Not that I'm saying everyone who likes bush is a racist. Some people are just contrarian to reality.
you didn't lynch a black person - you lynched a ******. the context was correct. This is racist regardless of the context it is used. It is offensive. Racism can't be tolerated in ANY form. Innocent people were hung Children were hung! I think Bush is just trying to look good and pull in votes for McCain. Mr. confederate flag waver could care less about black people. IMO
Offensive? i don't think so...racist? no, not in anyway. again, i'm just stating what is it that happened. black people weren't lynched, niggers were. white people weren't lynched - ****** lovers were. those are the words used by the racist to do these terrible things - to deny that and limit the words used in todays language is a terrible thing to do. this is history. its what those people used. so don't get on some high horse and say what i'm saying is racist.
Theres no need for the parlance of racists. Everyone understands the words. Nobody is, well I'm not trying to ban the word. However in the context you've used it, it's tasteless, and doesn't add anything relevant to the debate. At all.
you can think that...i think differently. Penny didn't fully understand what it meant. i made it totally clear on what it means to lynch someone back in time when this was happening. so yes, it is quite relevant in my eyes.
no it couldn't not in my eyes and i see no wrong in using it. i actually use it quite a lot with my friends back home in discussing topics such as this. but we'll keep spinning our tires here, so i'm done
Whatever dude I just stated my opinion and you yours. Many people find those terms offensive. Thats my opinion I don't see the necessity to use those terms. I was raised to speak out. Racist are ignorant but educated people who say nothing are worse. Maybe you don't see the word as offensive but I do. No matter what color the person using it is.
I agree with both of you, to an extent. I'm with Spence when he says I don't think the word has to be used to emphasize the action, especially when I highly doubt Penny understands the weight that the word carries. Seeing as it is a term only recognized within our nation, and doubtfully elsewhere. However, I do see the dramatic effect you were going for Chris, just that if I made the case, I could easily have said "black man" or any number of slightly less offensive terms. Not trying to censor you in any way, just throwing my pennies in the basket. Peace yo.
i'm just a masshole - what can i say you guys should read the book ******: the strange... its by a Harvard Law professor - i think he left, he might not have...not really sure at the moment
