Agreed. I wuv my wittle Ferret, Leelu! At the same time, i love hamburgers, fishing, and I've always wanted to experience hunting... just being out there in the wilderness, hunt and kill my won prey... just me and the deer. I think it would be a beautiful experience. I've always loved animals. My boyfriend will tell you how I won't hesitate to bring stray cats home and such home and feed them everything in the fridge. or go hug a stray cat walking past. Or profess my adoration to a puppy i just met.
Ferrets rule. They always want to chew on my fingers for some odd reason though... Ah... I have to go make a post... I'm hoping to find someone close by to adopt some cats.
Hmm. Doesn't PETA have an income as a non-profit organization of about 30,000 annually on average? Sorry if I'm wrong, but from what I've read, this last year, 90% of the animals they saved were also the animals they "put to rest". They had pretty big tax write off for a giant walk in fridge, one used for storing meat. So where are the real facts? I dont' really know about the bombings though so I can't agree with that..
Just so you know...and for the record...no bombings have ever killed or injured a person. And PETA is usually NOT responsible for these bombings...it's ALF. And ALF, also has never injured or killed a person either. So I don't know where those claims are from, but they are untrue.
oooh, then in that case its ok to destroy someone else's property? I dunno, I'm kind of half and half on this. On the one side, I believe that yes, corrupt companies and businesses and other tools of destruction should be destroyed and blown up. But then again, how much would I like it if people destroyed my shit? I mean, ren't we as humans a little smarter than resorting to that? Why not stick with education, and if people want to eat meat, that's their business. if you don't like fur or meat, then fine, don't buy it.
Gotta drop my 2 cents in here. I personally have greater respect for animal life than I do most of humanity. I do believe that animals have a right (just as we supposedly do) to a life free of undue pain, suffering or terror. I see in PETA, a group with good intentions that takes itself way too seriously. Yes, someone needs to speak for those that cannot speak for themselves. However- My personal stance has been built on my own particular needs and morals. I am a carnivore. An apex predator, if you will. I have celiac, and am allergic to soy and legumes. I have no ability to pursue a vegan or vegetarian diet, despite how much I might want to. That would diminish my quality of life to the point that I would be practically living on life support. So I make the choice to eat meat. I am also a hunter, and I will take the weak, lame or obviously injured animals for my own use. Responsibly. I buy locally produced meat, killed in a humane manner. (I.E. a manner that causes as little suffering as possible) I've been approached by people claiming to be PETA/ALF/animal rights activists who call me completely reprehensible for my actions. If I am to continue my life in good health, without undue burden to myself, or those who care about me, what then am I to do? I've proposed sound, economical and more humane slaughter methods to the local farmers, and several of them have taken them as a matter of course, because they see the sense in removing suffering from the chain as much as possible. It is my belief that only the truly sick delight in causing undue suffering. Whether it be to an animal, or to a person. Destruction of property, where people who are working to feed their own families, causing the loss of jobs, loss of quality of life for not only the people directly involved, but the collateral damage of those not involved (such as the child of a man who works at a meat packing plant or slaughterhouse who has to go hungry, because daddy's workplace got destroyed) is as reprehensible as cramped, dirty conditions, inhumane slaughter, and brutal transport methods. Why not work, instead, to elevate quality of life across the board? I, myself, have had occasion, more than once to end an animal's life, and I did so humanely, and without undue stress or suffering on the part of the animal in question. I am very open to expressions of pain, be they animal or human (for example, two of my feline companions are ferals that I've brought into my house..one given because the other choice was the pound, and the other saw me in the backyard in 40F weather, in the rain, coaxing him out from his shelter, because his cries roused me from sleep) I've had to, because of the rural area, do a mercy to an animal that was too weak, or too sick to survive on its own. Does this make me wicked or reprehensible? I've killed to eat, and I will continue to do so, but there's no reason to do so cruelly, irresponsibly or callously. A very simple method (and I apologize if I offend any sensibilities here) is one that I've seen used for chickens. (and cattle) A relatively airtight room, a ceiling vent, and a canister of CO2. As the CO2 sinks, it pushes the breathable air towards the ceiling, through the vent. The animal exhausts its oxygen in its blood, and lays down, exhausted, lapsing into sleep in an effort to conserve the oxygen. Death comes swiftly thereafter, quietly, and the animal is allowed to pass its last few moments in peace, not in terror or fear. Might not be pretty, but it's much more humane.
im vegan, but i also believe that there is way too much greed in human nature and we'll never completely stop piggish ways of eating and collecting food. There will always be people who see the difference in eating a moving animal and a plant, and those who do not.
I think a lot of people claiming to be vegan or vegetarian, usually ages 13-20, are doing it more as a fad... i have noticed, as I did in high school, that vegetarianism is very "popular" because its non-conformist. For me, I love my meat. When i don't eat enough, i get light headed and weak. And, well, I love my meat/
I agree, and so bleeding pretentious and full of themselves, too. It's one thing to defend oneself and one's choices, but so many of them lord it over people's heads that because they have a choice in how to live, that automatically makes them 'better'. The holier than thou attitude is more obnoxious and annoying than almost anything else I've encountered. (except for the people who actually try and pollute food) The snotty, arrogant faddishness of it is disgusting and ridiculous.....especially around the 13-20 crowd, like you said, BNP. A great many of them haven't even developed their own moral compass yet, but they feel the need to tell the rest of us how to live. Why again do we suffer fools? 'The gods made all creatures, All things great and small, But because they made so many, They must love idiots most of all' Ugh, now I want a cig.
I remember in high school how there was a group of the non-conformist vegetarians and vegans... they always took every chance to victimize themselves and be all out attention whores. They'd be the type who just get all offended and butthurt over EVERYTHING... everyone was evil and sick and out to get them. Anyway, they acted like they were pure or saints or something when it came to their meat free diets... everyone else was an insenstive monster who just didn't understand...
My adopted grandma, clever woman she was, stated the following 'The more noble the cause, the more prats and gits it'll attract.'
can someone post a vidio link? i haven't heard much about peta..... im going to look 4 my self but if anyone has a vid they know of that would be good plz post it i just like to see 4 myself thats all...
The first time I saw their web site, years ago, I honestly thought it was a parody, or that the site had been hacked or something. The feature article at that time talked about the importance of converting pet dogs and cats into vegetarians. But it turned out to be for real!
absolutely. carnivores do not create complete amino acid and nutrient profiles from vegetable matter. Despite what well meaning fools might believe, an animal must eat what it is designed for. My cat might like eating pizza crusts, but it is not what he is designed to eat. So I give him bones (that I don't eat myself) to gnaw instead.
some dude mentioned peta is a fad, from the little i know, the concept is that people abuse animals like a 4 year old child who thinks animals are objects and they fight against that. thats cool, but lets be real: - Nature shows us that being a carnivore is a part of life. - History shows that eating meat is a primary diet of a human being. - Humans have dominance over animals. Period to this last point! Yeah i hate the fact that we skin animals for their fur for luxury and not necessity, but ultimately animals ain't on the human level. The dominant species does what ti wants till further notice!
