I have another theory that true bisexuals (or more accurately, true pan-sexuals) simply don't discriminate based on gender nor regard gender as a binary phenomenon. Bi or Pan people sometimes just like a certain type of person without regard to gender. As a long-time pan-sexual, that is how I feel inside. For me it's a primeval urge for intimacy that transcends gender.

I accept that gender is a continuum. not two separate categories, which explains why I and my girlfriend and my closest male friend have both masculine and feminine characteristics.

I think ultimately you may be right. Certainly my sexuality has gradually evolved through greater and greater uncovering of the masks hiding it, from heterosexual through bicurious, bi-confused, bisexual, then swinging close to the homosexual spectrum, along with an evolution of more and more types of same sex sexual activities through to similar romantic feelings for guys as I have for women.
