America hasn't been great since the 50's, post WW2.

How about look outside your ( not you) own party preference and vote FOR a President who actually cares for American and its people more then whether they are a Dem or Rep

    Well.... That wouldn't be Trump.

His idea of the American people is that they would make good slaves. (or rather serfs for his kingdom)

Trump reminds me of Obama; running an entire campaign on vague empty catch phrases.

    Make America great again!
    Hope! Change!

    Yes.

The problem is the non mainstream candidates always get overlooked and that is what needs to change.

Unfortunately, the media and donors will never let that happen.

You mean when we were the only country with the atom bomb?

And try telling someone in the third world that America isn't great!

    Misinterpretation.

Great as in respectability, morally and ethically.

The 60's was a tumultuous time ans not matter what some say; there was Vietnam, the protest and sit ins and assassinations; none have helped in anyway; just look around and see the same stuff is still going on but at a more extreme way.

The 70's: Watergate, high fuel costs, the rise in Terrorism, bad politicians, kidnappings and Disco.

The 80's: War (Iran/Iraq, Afghanistan/Russia, American/Iraq), illegal Arms sales, the rise of Bin Laden and the Taliban

The 90's: Gulf war continued, "Read my Lips, no new taxes", Clintons' disregard to capture Bin Laden when He was being gifted to him, Milosovich and ethnic cleansing, Bill and Hillary, Al Gore and his Global Warming.

2000's: War, Terrorism, poverty rise, homelessness on the rise, World in chaos

And still continuing. America has never learned its leason.

Hit me when you have an argument.

    How about before the 50s?

The 1920s: Prohibition leading to the rise of organized crime.

    The 1930s: The great depression.

    The 1940s: WWII.

And as for the 1950s there was Joe McCarthy and the Korean War.

America is a great country; it has been challenged from its beginning and the challenges show no sign of abating. Some challenges come from within, some from other countries. Time and again we've managed to overcome those challenges and keep going. There were gains made in the 1960s but I'm concerned that we'll see them erode away with the rise of the conservative elitists. When people like Donald Trump and Sarah Palin command so much influence over so many people it indicates this country is getting dumber every day.

The word great is kinda vague, never really cared for it in terms of nationalism

America has its flaws and strengths like any other country. I'm not sure it was ever "great" - it seems like America being great never really even mattered until we emerged as a superpower post WWII. Every decade since has been riddled with some kind of issue.

America is the okayest country in the world.

America is lucky enough to be able to become the worlds policemen due its relative isolation. Enough so that it can discerner itself without major backlash. With backlash I mean external not internal domestic terrorism.

The relative Isolation and safety though gives a rise in the capability to become overly arrogant.

Unfortunate for many countries in Europe who do not have that sustainable distance to assert itself with a relative safety net. To which would be cause to succumb to the wishes of over zealous nations in the region.

That and a 90% military budget.( 90% may be high but the picture is painted)

Take the Syrian refugees, European nations have no choice in if they come or not. Sure they can close borders but really as we see, that does not work.
America on the other hand can sit back and say we will take X amount or not, it isn't really a national issue.

For an okayest (as Meliai eloquently puts it ) country in the world, it has the dirtiest nose.

America surely looked the greatest to most other countries in the post WW2 era, even if the nation had its struggles then (I'd say from the '50s until the 90's surely). But maybe they were trying the hardest to look as such as well.

Still wrong! ... or maybe just subjective :p ;)

It seems like a lot of the perception of America being the greatest comes from the fact that American film, tv, and music culture spread throughout the world like wildfire post WWII. And for a long time our music and movies were awesome, so it was well deserved. Now that everything American is so watered down it makes me feel kinda bad the rest of the world is subjected to it.

Surely media entertainment added to that a lot, but also that this concept of the land of the free was taken a bit too serious by a lot of people. I think post 90's that finally started to wear off, not in the first place because of the media entertainment being watered down, but more so because of USA's dubious international policies starting to become common knowledge. Policies that really became an intrinsit part of the USA in those post WW2 decades (the time America's glorification reached a climax due to them being perceived as saviours of the world and the cold war with the abominable soviet union to compare it with :p and of course because everything seemed bigger and better), but most people just didn't know or were eager to know around that time.
