Felt like adding to my former response to your post (valid point at first...) that this point still stands where it comes to the majority of americans:

Albeit probably for different reasons for different people. Hopelessness (things should be different but I can't do nothing about it), apathy, cluelessness/lack of insight, self preservation at the cost of your fellow men etc.
If people actually believed their vote could matter (not just their one vote of course but combined with a lot of others who are just as fed up) they could stir things up massively already just with that. But influencing what direction your country's heading in doesn't stop with your votes of course.

It's one thing to be an ideologue, and another to be pragmatic.

Americans are hardly the only people guilty of blind patriotism. Living overseas in a house with people from all over the world taught me this.

Ronald Reagan's son has said he won't vote for Trump and neither would his father if he were alive

Mitt Romney has said the state of the Republican Party is breaking his heart and that a Trump presidency would spawn trickle-down racism.

This is what we need, more Republicans and conservatives attacking him. The Trump supporters won't listen to us, maybe they'll listen to them.

You can blame Hillary Clinton for that and the idiots who are too stupid to support someone like Bernie.

All day long, Trump played around with the idea that Obama might want terrorism to succeed here. I guess there's no line he won't cross.

A violent, radical one at that.

Some of his supporters need to google Joe McCarthy. Wait, they might like him!

Now trump wants to pick, and choose which members of the media can cover his campaign.
Yeah, that's it, don't like the message, shoot the messenger.

    What a complete asshole.

Interesting. Nothing lower than rich folks fucking working people --just because it means a few more bucks for them. When I was in South Florida working, those slick folks from NY or Connecticut drove a few contractors that I knew--right out of business. This guy Trump is amazing! Narcissistic, a blowhard, a liar, a cheat , a bigot, childish, ENTITLED,and has never done an honest days work in his miserable existence. And a bunch of republican -----and I can't refer to them as anything else---suck-ass motherfuckers that have no pride in themselves at all------jump on his "bandwagon" juuuuust in case he wins. Despicable. Any republican is bad enough---but this crop is the absolute worst. This is not believable to those of us that have been around a while.

To the mans secretary= " never mind the last payment--obviously he needs it more than I do," I told her. My brush with a millionaire builder in Florida. She sent the payment.

I'm aware of the history of universal suffrage and free speech and I was also aware that the United States was not the first to adopt such policies.

It was not my intention to claim that they were the first to adopt those policies. My opinion is that merely adopting Universal suffrage is an accomplishment. For example if Saudi Arabia adopts universal suffrage, I would definitely say they've accomplished something important, even if they'd be a bit late to the party so to speak.

To give another example India sent a mission to the moon in 2008. I consider this to be an accomplishment of the Indian people even though the Americans and the Soviets got there first. Many Indian are proud of this accomplishment - and they have every right to be.

That being said I have to admit I was not aware of the history of the steam engine.

All I'm saying is you shouldn't throw out the baby with the bathwater.

We should criticize America's shortcomings, and there are many, but we need to give these criticisms some perspective. Saying that America has never been great is ridiculous. For over a century, America was an industrial, technological, cultural, and political tour de force.

If there are any historians left in a thousand years, I'm certain they'd regard America the same way we regard the Roman empire.

As for Trump, I'm cautiously optimistic that he's going to bring more good than ill. If Trump intends to put the interests of the American people ahead of those of globalists, then I think he's going to have a net positive effect.

In what way? That they were both big and both rose and fall? How they rose to their big size, power and influence is entirely different, maybe the collapse has more similarities.

I'm not really optimistic about how he would perform this job, but hey, we don't know for certain. I'm really skeptic though. But in the long term it might be better to have Trump as american president now, rather than Clinton. Clinton's presidency could possibly give a counter reaction and get the republicans a LOT of support next run. Trump's presidency however could have the exact opposite result: the urge to finally go with a progressive and sensible candidate who isn't in it to maintain the current power of various corporations and the seemingly impossible to overcome polarisations between various american groups of people (which are now (ab)used to be played out against eachother (mainly Trump) or simply to leech support of (Clinton)).
