It's extremely historically rare in the US to have a president from the same party for 3 terms in a row. It's only happened a few times.

Frankly I think not the Roman impact was due to its longevity, the US just hasn’t had the legs – I mean the Roman Empire begun with Octavian lasted some 500 years and if you take n the eastern empire nearly 1500 years how long has the US been a world power about a 100 years.

Anyway for me the problems for the US really began when it tried hubristically for global hegemony after WWII, that often led it politically and economically into doing more harm than good.

I think the only interests Trump thinks about is his own, I don’t think he gives a fuck about the majority of Americans, and his stated policies are likely to do more harm than good. But please explain your thinking.

I don't understand how you can believe that. Can't you see thu the facade?
Trump only does what benefits trump. Furthermore, he is mentally unstable, and incompetent to be president.

True, but while Hillary is using it to endorse gun control, Trump is using it to endorse Muslim immigration control.

I thought we already had gun control but not specific immigration laws aimed at Muslims.

I wasnt even referring to talk of gun control, we should be talking about that - moreso how she is using Donald Trump's idiotic talk of banning Muslims as an excuse to show how she is so sane and rational comparatively. Which I get, I cant really blame her because Trump makes it so easy, but there is a certain smugness in it I find a little off putting in the wake of a tragedy.

But back to the topic of the thread, Trump is calling for a ban on Muslims entering the US because an American born citizen goes on a shooting rampage in the grand tradition of deeply disturbed young American men. Why are people still buying his snake oil?

It is easier to portray the problem (or at least the origins of it) as a foreign one and not a problem that is mainly one of your own nation. A lot of people want to believe it. It apparently just suits them much better.

People keep throwing this gun control concept around like it equates to Trump's total ban on all Muslim's entering our country when they are two completely unrelated things.

You, yourself tell us that Clinton is using the Orlando shooting to endorse "gun control". This seems to me to show that you don't realize that we already have gun control. Guns are already regulated and controlled. Clinton is not endorsing gun control as we already have gun control. What she is advocating is a revision to the current gun control laws already in place.

Trump, on the other hand is proposing something that has never been done in U.S. history. The closest thing we have, that I can find, is the Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882 which was aimed not at a specific religious group or even a complete ethnic or national people but only "skilled and unskilled laborers and Chinese employed in mining," ~ Wikipedia

The U.S was the first nation in history to ban a state religion, and it is prohibited from endorsing, promoting, or favoring any one religion over any other. It has always accepted immigrates from any nation in the world without demanding a religious test. To ban immigrates based on their religion would be a first for the U.S. government and is completely contrary to the values we in the U.S. hold in regard to religion..

Well of course Orlando is going to be a focal point for debate is an important event, I think a politician that didn’t mention it should be prosecuted for dereliction of duty.

BUT – the important thing is - is what’s been said valid?

Hillary is taking about tightening up gun control which seems valid in the light of what happened while Trump is ranting on about Muslim immigration which seems irrelevant to the events.

He's now saying that we should be concerned about anyone who has immigrant parents. So, I guess he has plans to move "back" to Scotland right away.

Goodbye Donald! :seeya: We won't miss you!

Doubtful but it might not matter if these poll numbers are any indication.......

Clinton Has 12-Point Edge Over Trump in Bloomberg National Poll

Democrat Hillary Clinton has opened up a double-digit lead nationally over Republican Donald Trump, whose negatives remain unusually high for a presidential candidate amid early indications that the Orlando terrorist attack has had little direct impact on the 2016 race.

A new Bloomberg Politics national poll shows Clinton leading Trump 49 percent to 37 percent among likely voters in November’s election, with 55 percent of those polled saying they could never vote for the real estate developer and TV personality

It's also important to note that 94% of blacks said they would never vote for Trump. 79% of Mexicans, and 55% of women

Like most of you, I am very worried about a Trump presidency. I usu. vote Democrat--all my life in fact. But there have been some very qualified Republicans that became president, that I admire, if only from afar. Richard Nixon. Gerald Ford. Heck, I even think George W. Bush was not all that bad, even though I never voted for him.

But one thing bothers me a lot now. And I hope I am wrong about this. But if I am any judge of a man's character here, I sadly I think I may be, it is really a frightening prospect. Will Donald Trump go away quietly, even if he loses by a wide margin?

I fear even if he does, he may take to the courts. As I understand it, he already has a lot of lawsuits going, even as we speak.

I just have this terrible fear he will drag the baseless lawsuits on and on, for years and years to come. Someone please tell me why I am mistaken about this.

There maybe a silver lining, to this cloud, though. It will make pretty good media entertainment. The courts will probably ignore him, this time, unlike Bush v. Gore. And the president-elect (if it's not him), will just go on with business as usual. And the lawsuit, as I said, will still drag on and on.

Someone once said truth is stranger than fiction. But this is one time when it will be more entertaining as well.

But once again, is my prediction wrong? For now, I certainly hope so too.
