thered, I understand what you're saying. And maybe Rowling did intend for Dumbledore to be gay from the get-go. I was referring to readers reading too much into inane details. I just think it was Rowling's way of pissing people off, not a part of the character from the beginning.
I think she did it to expose to people how much homosexuality freaks them out and they might not realize it. I mean all the way through the series Dumbledore was cool. Everyone had to be fuming after the ending of #6. Then a few days after number 7 comes out Rowling says that he was gay. And everybody is like, "OH MY GOD!! He's a FAG!!?". He's not so cool now eh? And why is that? Look back at yourself reading the series before you knew he was gay and ask yourself, did you like him then? And maybe you don't now and why is that. why does it matter, at all, what his sexual orientation is?
I never really got the gay vibe from Dumbledore. I mean, it always seemed like him and Professor McGonagall were secretly in love.
I just read the Harry Potter books again recently, and I think there was more of a romance between Hagrid and McGonagall than between her and Dumbledore. Although I have to agree with you, I never got the gay vibe either. I think calling it a publicity stunt would be a bit harsh, but I think it was her way of making sure the series ends with a bang, and generally to make people aware of gay rights. I'd say it worked because it was headlines at that stage and she used a very widespread and popular medium to spread her message. L_S
well i knew that the actor that played dumbledoor in the first movie was gay. but i didn't know that dumbledoor himself was a homosexual. how strange
