This is hype recently the city councils of Eindhoven,Rotterdam and Amsterdam have rejected the tourist pass system.
I don't see how the owners of coffee shops are gonna let this happen, definately like it said there will be an "economic catastrophe"
Let's hope so. Nijmegen rejected their plan to make squatting illegal last year. Not sure how that panned out. I think people are still squatting there. I think it's time the government took the hint. No-one wants their bullshit laws.
So is this happening because foreigners go over there and act a fool? The $$$$ they lose will fuck them up if this passes.
Actually they do, some of them. And then I go over and am instantly tarred with the same brush as them. A lot of people from the UK who go there really don't know how to behave themselves. It's they who are responsible for this happening really. Idiots.
It usually is the English. Wherever I go, if westerners have a tarnished reputation, it's almost certain that English people caused it to be so. They're always the ones looking to get into a fight, harassing the locals, being loud and obnoxious, and, of course, getting excessively wasted. I don't know why they can't just be nice and friendly like most other travelers.
It's not just the English... unless you mean the British. I know a lot of Scottish guys who are real fucking assholes who live there, or used to anyway... There was one who looked a bit similar to me (if you were to describe him or I to a person who hadn't met either of us) and unfortunately was scottish and had the same name as me. Heard a few stories about the guy, only met him once in my time there, always starting trouble and fighting... So as i was getting to know the town a lot of the people I was meeting had heard of this guy and then instantly thought that I was him, and this caused a few problems for me getting to know the locals... and of course I had no idea about this until months later.
Does anyone know yet what kind of laws a person there would face if they were caught selling to a tourist?
A hefty fine probably, and then a stretch if you are caught again. No-one seems to do anything about the black guys selling charlie though, so I expect the police will probably do little to stop it form happening.
Sighhh, as if the only thing to see/do in Amsterdam/Netherlands is get stoned.. The way some of you react.
So the fact that the only place in the entire world that you can get stoned without any hassle might be getting outlawed is no big deal then, because it's not the only reason to go there?
There's a lot to be desired in Amsterdam, for sure. I put the weather as #1 issue, esp. if you live there. But it's a beautiful city in any weather. The Dutch used to be tolerant, or were very good at pretending to be. Today they don't pretend anymore.
People can be very rude in Amsterdam compared to other cities in Holland, but they're certainly a lot more pleasant that Londoners.
