Thanks for the pointer. Damn, the ones I was looking to buy seem to be externally threaded... I'm not just sticking them in, I'll be using tapers, but it still seems like a bad idea. That's too bad, cuz I'm damn broke at the moment. Anyone happen to know of a reputable but very inexpensive source of INTERNALLY threaded jewelry? I've been looking on eBay and I can't find a single auction that actually says one way or another. The sellers I've asked have all said external.... I really want to size up!
If you use tapers... they are usually concave at the bigger end (if the ones you were planning on using aren't, it's pretty easy to find ones that are) and the threading will sit right inside them, so there's no huge worry. The problem usually comes with tapers that are flat at the bigger end, or not using tapers at all/just putting the jewelry in, or changing jewelry in piercings that aren't fully healed.
if you want cheap and can go a bit slowler with the stretch, you might consider acrylics. they don't have the weight that the metals do. i have 0g in mine and play with them constantly and will be going up to a 00 soon but it has taken a lot longer. i have the seamless rings; plus they come in groovy colors. just a thought. Peace.
No worries. I figured it out. I'm stepping up one ear at a time, and mostly just using the tapers to stretch them. My ears seem to be healing really fast. I'm not rushing it or anything, but waiting until the piercing feels totally healed up, and then going to the next size. A friend of mine gave me a bunch of CBRs that he decided not to use, still new in the sealed little baggies. But they skip some sizes. So I'm basically just using the tapers, one in the right ear and the next size down in the left ear, with o-rings, and sizing up once they feel better. Then, when I get up to the sizes for which I have rings (in this case, I'm going up to an 8g) I can stick them in there and give it a little more time. It seems to be working pretty well, going by what feels right instead of a strict time table (I was expecting that I'd size up every four weeks or something, and it's turning out more like every week). At this rate, I'll be up to my 4g goal in just another 2-3 weeks! I'd better make the plugs I want to be wearing! Now I understand all y'all who end up going farther than you originally planned, this shit's addictive! Oh well, I figure once I'm up to a 4 I'll be good for a while, I can concentrate on making plugs for a while and then maybe I'll be able to get my fix with a tat, finally...
