Emo...[WARNING: Vent Ahead...]

Discussion in 'Punk' started by ThreeEyedChild, Mar 24, 2009.

  1. Does anyone else remember when bands like Fugazi and Karate were the epitome of emo? Then came Weezer... And now it's used to describe bands whose names I am unfamiliar. Strange the way that worked out.

    Lolz.
That reminds me of a show I was at.
I was in the pit and a dude kicked me in the leg so hard
I had converse bruises on my thigh for like 2 weeks.

    Anyway, you speak the truth.
    Thank you.

Emo's haven't taken over punk. Ignorant people call emo's punk, but punk is dead anyway so anyone who calls an "emo" or "scene" kid "punk" or "goth" is sadly ignorant and misinformed, since both are dead.

Who cares, when someone calls an emo something it is about their looks, not about music and their looks often match the goth and punk look.

oh, c'mon. the punk attitude and the punk music are not dead. therefore the movement is not dead. Based on your observations, it may be dead. But everywhere you go on this huge fuckin' rock, there will be punks of all kinds.

Perhaps ive been in a coma for a few years, but what the fuck is this emo shit? I've been listenin to punk since it first came over here..(which was late76-early 77.At that time you had the pistols, the clash, black flag, dead kennedys, the misfits.thats punk music..Punk was about the ills of society and the injustices done to the common people..Whai i liked about it was that it wasnt about boy meets girl..If i hear another song about that subject,I WILL FUCKING PUKE!!!

i say that the punks, thrashers, metalheads and TRUE hip-hoppers should get together and beat up all of the emo kids. and the scene kids...since they're really the same thing.

forgive me for not being "hip" enough to tell the difference, but your choppy fucking haircuts and predictable facial piercings seem to...coincide.

"emo" is a fad. Just like furbies, it won't last longer than a virgin in bed with Pamela Anderson.

Most of the people who tear apart emo, listen to it. Then they stretch their musical definitions to avoid getting caught listening to emo. Most people who don't listen to emo don't mind that there's a huge emo scene going on.

Don't get me wrong though. I love emo. When you're in the right mood, any genre of music can be magical.

Actually, emo isn't what it used to be. It started out in the late 80's with the term ''emotional hardcore'' or ''emocore'' for short. It started with a number of underground punk bands, with the most known band being the Rites of Spring. Into the 90's, emo started to change by adding the indie genre in with emo, therefore creating ''indie emo''. This made the emo genre's sound become more melodic. Bands such as Mineral, Sunny Day Real Estate, and Cap'n Jazz all follow this indie emo genre. Into the late 90's and early 00's, bands such as Jimmy Eat World, The Get Up Kids, and The Promise Ring were thriving and started to become bigger, as emo fans grew. The emo genre/music subculture is now dead, because of large companies such as rock magazines, MTV, and VH1. Real emo has died out, and as soon as emo became mainstream, it changed completely. The dress went from bowl haircuts, thick rimmed glasses, sweater vests, cuffed jeans, vintage t shirts, and chuck taylor converse shoes to black spiked hair, tight jeans, dark clothes, studs, and screamo band t shirts.

Some REAL emo and indie bands include:

    -Rites of Spring
    -The Get Up Kids
    -American Football
    -Cap'n Jazz
    -The Promise Ring
    -Sunny Day Real Estate
    -Jawbreaker
    -Mineral
    -Sparta
    -At the Drive-in
    -Egg Hunt
    -Jimmy Eat World(their earlier work)
    -Fugazi
    -Embrace
    -Joan of Arc
    -Braid
