I'm afraid things do really suck on this side of the pond, the government is doing all sorts of stupid things. The law against gathering is The Public Order Act 1986. There's loads of other dum stuff though like bringing in ID Cards, stopping people from making jokes about other peaples religions, all the stupid terrorism laws, its very very annoying. Britain is slowly turning into a fascist sate as more and more of our rights get taken away. As far as gatherings are concerned, we used to have gatherings 10 times the size of any rainbow gathering that theres ever been but Margeret Thatcher put an end to all of that when she sent out her boys in blue to smash it all up. But we still have th Camp Scene which is really cool.
Yeah, there's been word of National ID cards and datatbases getting thrown around here too. RFID chips, video cameras everywhere (though I know london has plenty of those =S) Its funny that not only did Orwell write 1984, but its rediculously popular and thousands of people read it and study it in schools, yet no one can see it becoming reality around them? I grow weary of this society...
Well lets see if things get any better in the next few years, I know things seem to be getting worse, but a lot of us faith in the Hopi prophecies, and also question what will happen in winter solstice 2012 when the Mayen calender ends.
hi folks, I have some questions, what's the deal with the Rainbow Family, i have met some whilst travelling this vast planet and to me it seems a bit pretentious, with some underlying cult thing going on, and what is the vision council? is this like a government? I thought it was a free thinking non- organised, organisation???? What's the deal. As For the Gathering in the uk, i am from that silly little island and it used to be a cool place with many a free festival, but it all went to shit in the thatcher years ans now it is a not the place for free thinkers!!! I would be interested to come to the Gathering to check out what goes on, i am guessing that it is a load of people banging drums and the like, is this what hippies have become?! And..... why is God mentioned, this is scary!!!! So... if someone can enlighten me into the comcept of " Rainbow " maybe i won't be so cynical. All the best and thanks..... boom shanka
Well, if that country's gonna start with RFOLL USA, first we'll have to Council about it. After listening to several hours of folks holding a feather going on about how it's thier first Gathering, and they LOOOVE everybody, but someone really ought to do something about all the loose dogs, and the dog shit on the trails, it will be dark, and time to bang on drums till sunrise. Folks will Wake and Bake up about 10:00 AM, breakfast will be ready by early afternoon, and, if we're lucky, this Council of Independance will reach a consensus on name for the prospective Sovereign State of Rainbowland by drum banging time, if it's a summertime council, and there's lots of daylight. Next day, someone will mention that formation of this State might possibly require the use of armed force. Someone else will then bring up the unburried shit issue, and Council will consence, after much debate, that unburried canine or human shit is a bad thing, and someone really ought to do something about it. To celebrate, many large bowls of Kind Bud will be smoked. The rest of the afternoon will be spent counciling about last night's fight at A-Camp. Day Four, the armed force issue will be brought up again. Council will consense that Magic Hat will only fund ammunition or explosives for the Consensual Free Assembly of Rainbowland Armed Forces that are made from 100% recycled material, and that use nitrates derived from Organic Free Range sources. This will cause a severe supply problem, and...We'll get our asses kicked! I'm having a lot of fun following this thread. Y'all make Euro Rainbow sound a lot like Home. Fagin, you should tell the folks in the UK Forum that a Plague of Hippies is much worse than a Bird Flew pandemic...
Manali, you make a fair point. I've come across many 'Rainbows' that are on a serious head trip because they believe themselves to be this chosen people of the Hopi prophecies. Also any group of people who claim to be a 'non-organisation' make me suspicious. It all very much stinks of the Kabutz which is now a million miles away from their original ideologies. Saying all of this, no society is perfect, and yes in my opinion Rainbow is both a society and an organisation. There haven't been any group suicide pacts yet and none of them have ever nocked on my door trying to convert me to being a Rainbow, so they haven't realy done anything to offend me. However some individuals claiming to be Rainbows have pissed me off in a major way in the past. As I said this is mainly people that are on a high horse or have become fanatical, which i dont think is the trend among most of the Rainbows. I wouldn't be to worried about them, and maybe you should check out the English gathering if it all goes ahead. You may prefer to get on the UK Camp Scene instead though.
okay, i'm very confused now... rainbow gathering-good but it being in britain-bad ??? hm... fagin, i'd like to talk to you about 2012 sometime
Hi there! I don't mean this to sound bigoted in any way, but I AM curious, and maybe you guys have an idea. I've surfed around alot of different forums, many not at all related to Rainbow, and I am finding that many posters from the UK in general seem to have a "different" outlook on life. One I can not relate to. In general they seem to be quite self absorbed and testy and somewhat judgemental, even hysterical in some cases. I'm wondering if you think this could be psycological fallout from exposure to the same theories that caused this "Thatcher" govt. to shut down the gathering scene, and create a sort of dictatorship as far as some freedoms go there? I just wonder what your input is regarding this, because I've been noticing this for quite a while, and I'm perplexed.
hey earthmother, I must try to avoid going into my self absorbed and testy and somewhat judgemental, even hysterical side! (only kidding sister) i know what u mean, the fact is that the UK is generally a pretty depressed nation. we used to have a proud working class that has now been essentially destroyed by the thatcher years, and we also had a proud and magical alternative scene made of the new age travellers and the free festivals and the squatting scne, but all that also got very messed up by the thatcher years. there is a lot of anger and resentment in the british public, problem is that a lot of brits dont know what they're angry at or how to channel the anger and do something about it. there is hope for us though..... peace sister.
I have yet to attend a gathering, but your description of how the council works reminds me a lot of these guys "Right, lets talk about a movement to not talk and actually do something." Ahh, the People's Front of Judea....
i think that was well said fagin the pagan. there are so many confused people here and we as a country have recieved some really bad labels for it. ie the steriotypical 'brits on holiday' even i steriotype us and avoid the 'brits on holiday'
England is as out of balance as the rest of the world...no more no less.....we the people even it out....if good wholesome spirit family come to celebrate here then it will heal... I hear alot of fear......I do understand why....altho there is alot of power in collective mind I will be here with my heart open & will give as much support for this tribal gathering to take place..... so whatever transpires will be for a greater purpose, I put my trust in the universe.....
People who are aware of chakras & universal energy flow... people who believe in the one world concept..... people who believe we are all connected altho on different degrees we do not aim no harm.... People who encompass the old ways, new ways, many ways as long as it harm none with intent.... People who have talents they wish to discover...... people who encompass a different way of life outside the rescrictions the governments put in place..... people who believe in freedom to express.... people who honour the cycles of life, death, rebirth.... people who acknowledge one & other..... People who dance, sing, dress up, cook for all & can put up a structure (together of cause) people who have a desire to discover as much about this cosmic universe..... people who dream & are inspired to live them... people like you & me.... ok I could ramble on for some time I hope this is of some insight.....
Yes, that was well said. We're just a bunch of folks, drawn pretty much at random ot of that great Otherness we call Babylon...The Microcosm contains the Macrocosm. I see paralells in the politics between this Euro Gathering and the East Coast Annual on This Side this year, from what I've read on this Forum, other parallells, down to the terrain... I bet the Iberian Penninsula has more wide open spaces suitable for a Gathering Site than Britain...
Britain has the most wonderful places to gather, places of such beauty one begins to quiver at the thought of them, britain holds all of the ancient magicks, we are the land of the celts, the land of king arthur, the home of stonehenge, and many other wonderful things. Sure the weather is crap here, but in England, we know how to gather! We used to get tens of thousands every year at Stonehenge free festival as we did at all of the other gatherings. Britain has become a hard place over the last few decades, a scary place full of depression and with very little love. I think that Rainbow coming here must be able to have some kind of an effect. I wont be there even though i'm the Rainbow Scout to Northumberland, as my duties lye with Oak Dragon and the other native tribes of England, however, I am working to make the gathering happen, because there will be big magic and beauty. Peace.
