My mommy bought us these as special treats when I was really small...but she was so afraid that we'd stain our clothes so we had to wear old clothes and bibs and we each (my sisters and I) got a half of a pomegranate each and a spoon. lol. My mom used to also call them chinese apples...and this was a long time ago before the craze. lol.
ive never heard the term chinese apple. my mom calls them indian apples. hahah i love pomegranates though
Before I left home, I used to visit rental properties that my family owned, and one of them had a huge pomegranate tree in the backyard. The pomegranates would fall on the ground...there were SO MANY of them, no one ever used them all. We'd always take some home, and I loved them. It strikes me as sort of funny--NOW, in light of the ridiculous prices stores charge for them!--that what we considered essentially yard waste (because they just got raked up and thrown away) is actually considered a rare delicacy. By the way, I moved away from California and lived in other states for many years, only returning [permanently] to SoCal last year. When I see pomegranates in the stores, I can't help but laugh at the prices--but at least I'm seeing pomegranates again. In some places I lived...they didn't even know what pomegranates were. Oh, the flavored water that I buy is a brand named "Fruit Refreshers," and the ONLY flavor I buy is Pomegranate Berry!
Do you's swallow the seeds? I always chew them and spit them out, messy business though but its the juice thats the tasty bit!
I grew up calling them "Indian apples" and love 'em. Up north, we only get them in the late fall @$2.00 apiece. When available I eat at least one a day as they are truly great for your health and they are incredibly delicious. Even my Rotti loves them, but, there aint too much that he won't eat, he even eats lettuce. Now that's a good boy.
i dont get why you wouldnt swallow them. thats what the fruit is, its seeds. are you sure your referring to a pomegranate?
