    Wrong!

They don't have normal pleasure responses , which is a defining trait.
Mostly they feel nothing so you are humping a sack of wet shitt!

    Your choice?

Lol! If ,in ignoring my denial ,you choose to believe that then so be it. The point I was trying to make is that western culture generally, seems to me ,to promote,in some instances, behaviors compatable with psychopathy. The 'me first','Greed is good-greed works' attitude popularised in the 80s are an example. The root causes of the global recession are another. Superpower abuses in the middle east.

Or look at popular entertainment. The James Bond charicter, psychopathic good guy! Shows like 'The Apprentice' or Big Brother that celebrate manipulation & ruthlessness.

Historically, check out the behaviors of Royalty & the Aristocratic classes in which overt psychopathic behavior in politics & the persuit of self interest were pretty much the same thing.

Or you'll recall our debate elsewhere roamy when people whom you call 'Freedom Fighters' carrying out legitimate actions were condemned by myself as sociopathic murderers of innocents.

Had a therapist who was a psychopath...made my mother cry. She didn't even use the right diagnosis chart. Other kids who have her agrees with me that shes a total psychotic bitch...may be just a sociopath

They are capable of anything, we can't imagine were they would go because we are stopped by ethics, they don't have them.

@ OP...if what roamy says is true then my mother was probably a sociopath. I'm guessing. She was never diagnosed. She had a violent childhood and I am guessing that is what made her this way. No empathy or sympathy for anyone but herself. Constantly astounded by her lack of feelings. At her sisters funeral in front of the casket she said OK everybody! Scootch in for a picture, you never know when we'll get together again. Cheeeeese. Couldn't believe anything she said. She would lie to manipulate. Had every disease. Faked suicide attempts when things weren't going her way even with children present in the house. Her lack of empathy and sympathy for others and unabashedly using people to get what she wanted.....
Aaaanyway, I could go on but lol I don't want to. That's my experience.

    "psychopaths are cool!"

"Whenever I see a response like this it makes me laugh instantly. Don't know why..."
    Can explain?

Lack of ethics means they usually wreck anyones life they get close to and walk away unconcerned.
If you are in business or have close dealing with one you are in trouble, often big trouble.
    The trouble is victims

High grade (assuming that we are all on the psychopathic spectrum to some degree) Psychopaths can be very difficult to spot. A guy Ive known very well for years has no real empathy, yet Ive known him be a very attentive listener,is very charming, engaging & can light up a room when he speaks in public.

Psychopaths mimmick what they don't naturally have and perfect the illusion. I wonder if some high achieving psychopaths actually know that they have this disorder , given that diagnosis usually depends upon the person coming to the attention of the authorities to be diagnosed as a result of some anti-social incident?

Not all psychopaths are offenders. Its not so much a reluctance to harm others as the inconveinience of being caught & a recorded offense becoming an impediment to future success. The estimate that 1% of the population (which I understand to be Diagnosed psychopaths specifically) are psychopathic has to be very conservative. Most probably go under the radar & we cope with their behaviors as best we can.

I asked about this very question to someone at Uni. He claimed the rise well into the professional world and see themselves as being successful rather than having a problem they see others as having the problem.

Thats what I think too, based on my albeit limited exerience. Ive a theory that psychopaths may therefore have a larger effect in influencing society than we may have considered.

Making ones way up the political tree is at least as tough as climbing the corporate ladder. It calls for hard headed pragmatism more than ,I'd say, idealism of itself. Ruthlessness, charm , manipulation & an ability to 'coldly' read circumstances & act decisively are all attributes that can be both effective & be admired by the hierachy.

Also it shows the similarity between the classic 'Alpha' type personalty & that of the high achieving, socially competant, psychopath. Where would you draw the line?

Yeah that's why I don't think I'd ever be able to do the whole corporate job setting, I'm to nice and carrying to fire somebody, and would worry too much about hurting someones feelings if they were fired for no reason.

Many people have "psychopathic potential".It just depends upon if they reach a trigger situation where they act out on it and commit some atrocity. My theory is that a lot of people with psychopathic tendencies channel that energy in perhaps insane ambition, become hugely successful in politics or finance etc,and stay under the radar. Also some people are practically "above the law",and get away with murder, and financial and political terrorism. It's not a world I would like to have any part of.Not to mention organised crime, which is just as adept at spying on the law as the as the law is on them...

This is a very common behavior in the corporate world, and higher up you go the more of them you'll find. This is because management rewards the ruthless, inconsiderate SOBs. Those who dismiss people left and right to improve the operating margin by 1%. An environment like this to a psychopath is like a greenhouse for plants. They thrive there.

I was on a jury for a guy who is a sociopath. He has anti social personality disorder. The trial was HORRIBLE and really fucked with my mind for a long time. It got to the point that I couldn't sleep without dreaming about this guy. I couldn't eat and if I was alone I would cry. That happened on a daily basis for about 6 weeks before my husband forced me to go talk to someone that could help me get the answers I needed to put it to rest. The thing that was upsetting me was the guy on trial. When they say they choose a jury of your peers it really hit home. The more I learned about this guy the more I realized he was someone I could have known growing up. We had a lot in common except I don't do horrible things. I knew he was guilty but I had overwhelmingly sad feeling for him. I felt like I knew him. I wanted to know what makes someone do the things that he did. My question was "What makes someone bad?"

I went to a therapist to talk about it because my personality was starting to change because of the effect this had on me. I only went to the therapist one time and what he told me and explained to me instantly helped me. He obviously didn't know this guy on trial but he had heard about the case because it had been ALL OVER the news. He explained to me the traits of anti social personality disorder. He told me that they have found that people with aspd have damage to the frontal lobe of their brain. Sometimes they are born that way. Sometimes its a chemical imbalance and sometimes it could be caused by an injury. Their surroundings add to their problems sometimes depending on their upbringing. That portion of the brain controls your conscience and the connection that gives you compassion for others. People with this disorder only think of how something will affect them. They don't make the connection with how the victim is going to feel.

He explained to me that there are different levels of the disorder. I can't remember the percentages now but a certain percent of people with it do things like compulsive lying about things like cheating on a spouse or driving drunk. Making bad decisions that they know are bad but decide to do it anyway but are not violent. The next group will do a little more violent things like get in fights and hurt people without feeling bad about it. The most extreme group are the serial killers and rapists. That group is the smallest percent (thank goodness) In their mind the victim is nothing to them. They have no feelings about the actual person. Their mind takes over and its all about what they want and has nothing to do with the actual victim. It's all about the feeling they get from their actions.

I became very interested in mental health disorders after going through that. That trial was almost 3 years ago and I still think of that guy every day. For a long time after the trial I thought about contacting him. I wanted to hear what he had to say that he couldn't say during the trial. Finally I came to the conclusion that his mental disorder would never allow him to tell me the answers to my questions. I knew it would be a bad idea to contact him so I never did. I still follow what is going on with him in prison through on the online court records. He got sentenced to 3 consecutive life terms + 25 years. He'll never see the light of day again but I would still love to have a glimpse of what is going on in his mind.

We have probably all met at least a few in our lives. But many do not know because they are good at hiding.

I am convinced many politicians, judges, cops and higher ranking military members are sociopaths..
