There is torment all around you and you are comfortably ensconced in your bourgeois perceptions of right and wrong. You are in serious need of a brain washing and if you are seriously representing yourself, a serious tongue lashing. On the chance that you are playing the devils advocate, I commend your excellence as the contrast is all informing.
It would be rather silly to believe that people go to hell if they do bad things in life. The most serious consequence is death, a fair and ritueous punishment.

The earth is fine, it is not affected by human woes. I don't think VG was that serious about hell, after all everybody likes Happy Gilmore. Death is a serious consequence of life but it is not a punishment.
death is actually not a person. its a natural part of nature. it is neither our friend or our enemy, just an acceptable part of life. in fact, it is what makes life special. if you think there is something after death, then that means this is not your only life, so therefore not as special. death is death. it is not sleep. its death. theres a big diffrence between death and sleep and we have the science to know the difference. nobody has ever come back from death. and i mean, a person having been dead for a good while, not a person being resuscitated in a hospital or near drowning, or something like that which does happen. and we even have the science to know why that happens, the brain was not damaged, the heart stopped for a while.
during sleep there is still activity in the brain. i would call death the total cessation of brain activity, with no chance of return. the question is, how does one know when there's a chance?
i believe science has a great answer to that, its called the glasgow coma scale. obviously it has to do with the viability of the brain. if the brain doesnt work, then there cant be life. in the future this may change when we can have computers that hold consciousness.
Lazarus was raised from the dead after being dead for three days. He never said anything about it. No stories about heaven or hell, no nothing. He was dead
oh i didnt know lazarus, what hospital did he die in? oh u say no hospital? oh u say its just heresay? oh u say its an ancient story? and you believe it with no other proof? well i say thats just silly. why dont you believe in the ancient greek stories of their gods and goddesses? tyrsonswood is right, no logical person can accept that as a reasonable argument.
There is more to the story then that one incident. Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead from the power From Jehovah. . There were witnesses. I have read and re read and studied those 4 books of the bible on Jesus life and ministry. I have no doubt the events mentioned happened.
