In this instance I can't get worked up about it.
You create a BS Google mail account and never worry about it.

If they were joined-up in their thinking they would have one card for both stores (and for any other stores they owned).
I do get what you mean though and I do appreciate it could be infuriating.
I can imagine people screaming at Google: "What more do you want? BLOOD".
But yeah, not something I can get too worked up about.
It's when I have to have all of these different emails and be a member of this social network or that social network...for sites that are totally unrelated...my info will be disseminated too far and wide.
Even worse, if the entire website is behind a wall and you need to have this or that just to view the site itself.
I can foresee that coming sooner or later.
Then my temper will be full exercised, I can tell you.

I'm going to find out if this is true. I thought they shared info if you opted in but didn't if you didn't. There is a big difference. Also: http://news.cnet.com/8301-13506_3-20029593-17.html

They have my boyfriend listed as a doctor in both Colorado and Massachusetts...I find it funny. He doesn't exist at all on that site.

To be honest the only reason I'm really pissed is because I had a google account, I had a youtube account, but both were completely different. So to log into my Youtube account I had to create another freakin google account.

Google also forces webmasters to register their site with them for so many things. They want every site in their sight. They expect webmasters to post up adsense ads or other crap that allows google to track the behavior of EVERYONE who visits the website.

I've refused to do it and have left my original google account inactive (from like 10 years ago).

It hurts our site in our google rankings and by not carrying their ads we lose ad revenue, but it's not worth the loss of privacy for our members.

Same reason I won't post links to facebook on every page of this site. It would mean a lot more traffic, but fuck them!

Let me know what you find, you're a better internet searcher than I am. I couldn't really find anything that gave me a definite answer, just conjecture. I do know that when you deactivate your account, facebook keeps all your information stored. All of it; if you reactivate your account your profile comes back exactly as you left it. Even when you delete any information from FB, they keep it stored in their database for 90 days so its certainly plausible that they could still be using stored information from deactivated accounts to help out advertisers in some way.

Skip, you give me yet another reason to love this site.

Note to self: Never connect your facebook and hipforums account at any time.

All this non-privacy is like being a celebrity without the money.

Next time you post a video on the internet take one of your ass and tell the feds who're lurkin' to kiss it.

sometimes I get tempted to start googling really revolutionary things..like "how to start a revolution and overthrow the government," "how to make a bomb," "how to start a popular uprising," then reactivate my facebook just to put similiar revolutionary ideas in my status update, then sit back and see how long it takes the Feds to come to me....could be a fun social experiment.

Thanks for that Skip...most webmasters would ONLY care about the money. Zuckerburg is proof of that since facebook started as a harmless networking site for college students.

Well, I deleted my facebook account. I'm really missing sending pictures of a cat to people I don't know, and its a bit inconvenient now I'm not being blasted with adverts for cheap mobile head-microwaves (mobile phones) but other than that its not too bad. Grateful for the spokeo info., they had pictures of stuff I sold on ebay 5+years ago, home town, phone no. and pictures of my kids. As well as deleting my FB, I took all their like buttons of my website. Hasn't affected my traffic one bit. Was disturbed when I installed Ghostery (firefox add-on) and looked at my site, it had google analytics and all kinds of crap running on it, not put there by me.
