Here is the ingredient list from Taco Bell's website: http://www.yum.com/nutrition/documents/tb_ingredient_statement.pdf
The McDonalds near me does a Veggi Melt Deli and a Veggi Deluxe burger However those are the only vegetarian options
I stay away from most fast food. We pretty much only ever eat out at Taco Bell. (Their beans ARE veggie)... "Two crunchwraps, no meat, add beans and rice; One Nachos Bellgrande, minus meat, sub rice" - STUFFS two people. We tend to shy away from eating burgers out at all - even in fancy sit-down restaurants where a veg-patty is an option. I always worry that they're cooking it right alongside meat products. You can request that they wipe down the grill first, but in my experience the result about 30% of the time is "annoying" the cook-staff and challenging them to sneak something into your food. :$ Someone mentioned something about "most" mexican restaurants - but fair warning, "most" of them don't have veg. beans, and more than that I tend toward paranoia about things like rice seasoning, etc. I won't even buy things like spanish rice packets at the grocery anymore. The general ingredient listing of "natural flavors" freaks me out!
That said, I'm with you homeschoolmama about Chipotle! I wish we had one here, I miss it! (although it does suck that McDonalds owns most of them...)
Yrs ago when my son became veggie and also worked at McDonald's. He hated eating at most fast food burger chain-places. Even though BK has a veggie burger~~where do u think they cook it RIGHT NEXT TO THE BEEF BURGER on the same grill. So the fat from an omni's beefburger will run onto your veggie burger.
Just occurred to me to also add - In & Out Burger (in the sw of the country, mostly Cali) is good for getting burger-less burgers, because they actually charge BY THE PATTY, so you can order just a bun and cheese and veg and not get charged for meat. I did that quite a bit a few years back when I was hitching...
Went on a school trip with dd and stopped at Wendy's- in VA. Ordered one of the deli sandwiches with no turkey and was told "we can't do that". I told her "Sure you can. " and repeated the order, and got it. Between transfats and contaminated veggies, I'd rather just avoid the chains altogether.
I love how that's all over the news lately - contaminated spinach, cantaloupe, celery, etc. At the grocery and in restaurants. I think the meat conglomerates are conspiring to scare everyone away from veg for good.
lol... I first tried chipotle when I was on the road from the west coast, and when I went back out to Oregon I misse them like mad. When they put in the one out by Lloyd center, I actually made excuses to drive up there from Salem or Eugene, just so I could "swing by" Chipotle! :& Thanks for letting me know that, dm. I'll look it up in the morning. It'd be nice to eat there without a guilty conscience again.
