    I agree.

How do you know that by the time you saw them they weren't on their second or third or fourth mile? I'm so sick of people judging overweight people for exercising. They're doing something. If you don't personally know them, you have no idea what they're doing aside from the jogging. Maybe he just got gastric bypass. The point is, leave them the fuck alone. People like you are the reason I work out at home. I'm pretty overweight but I do Insanity every day. By the end I look like I'm dying but I'm two weeks away from finishing the program. Shows what you know.

    No fucking shit, Sherlock.

My point was everyone KNOWS there are health issues associated with being over-weight. But this thread is not about that... it's about over weight people getting in shape and whether or not they feel comfortable running in public.

If you think I was "defending being over weight" you are really clueless. I was "defending" people who are over weight being able to run or do whatever they want to get healthier. I said I applaud them for making health life style changes. As for your posting about the health issues, it didn't even make sense to post that in THIS thread... and also...come on now.. not everyone technically considered obese has probs washing properly or wiping their ass... you just came across rude and condescending.

So, therefore (sigh...why do I bother?), why you would think I was applauding people being over weight when I was trying to defend their right to exercise and said it's great when people try to lose weight to get healthy, I have no clue...
also, you know nothing about me... I work out every day and eat very healthy. I am a 5'11.5 inch (let's just say 6 foot).... 6 foot tall female who had a baby 2 yrs ago and I have, in the past 7 months, went from 215 pounds to 182 pounds. My target weight is to be between 165 and 170 lbs ... although my scale does tell me my body composition (fat percentage, water percentage, etc) and I already know I have a lot of muscle, espiecially upper body strength and I have already gotten rid of most, if not all, the fat in the abdominal area (the unhealthiest fat)... I take part in a healthy lifestyle not as a diet but because I like how I feel when I am almost constantly (except when it's relaxing time) moving and how I feel when I eat healthy... you wanna talk about health and non healthy life styles? I highly doubt you eat the amount of unprocessed, nutrient dense, GMO free, organic superfoods that I consume daily... because I see food as medicine and feel you can balance your body and prevent A LOT of illnesses and ailments by eating food the way food is meant to be eaten (basically, in an untouched form)....

So, in closing, your post seemed absolutely ridiculous considering what this thread is about... and as I mentioned, completely condescending like people aren't aware of the health risks associated with being overweight...plus when I was over weight, I never had probs with sex or washing ...never slipped in the shower... never got laughed at... etc etc.

Also, my point through out this thread was not encouraging a people to be overweight but giving ppl who happen to be overweight credit for trying to get healthy and if that includes running in public , they should not have to worry about people laughing at them.
and then you come on here with that silly list... like you think you're in a room with... honestly, I don't even know..

Once again, overweight people know the health risks associated with it.

It seems like you think you just walked into a first grade classroom..

Yep, I found it amazing when I was on the swim team in high school..how I'd practice every day and even got a school record for the breast stroke that no one beat for quite a few years..and being a life guard too. Basically in very, very good shape. So, then I decide "well, I'm in good shape.. I want to try another sport in a different season"... so I went out for the track team. Thinking if I can swim for hours on end and have no prob with it... Nope, didn't work that way. I could not run well without wind getting in my ears and giving me headaches and the air effecting my lungs, etc.- I hated it and wasn't good at it.

Yep, I'll take the pool any day.

One more thing,... what in the world is fecking and how do you feck someone?

anyway, you sound like a mean, nasty person if you're making fun of people (laughing at them) for being over weight and calling them unattractive (they probably wouldn't WANT to be attractive to an arrogant person like you)...and "fecking" them to "see what it's like"... how old are you, two? No, that would be an insult to my 2 yr old.. hmm..

yet you tried to pretend you made your public service announcement of a post to "inform people of the health risks of being over weight"... I highly doubt it. I guarantee you wrote it just to make fun of over weight people, which really just shows you're an asshole of a person with bad karma on it's way.

Don't feed the troll. He's obviously just trying to get a rise out of everyone. No one would want to "feck" him.

I've seen very overweight people run a few times and I was horrified by it. Not because they were overweight people exercising - that's a great thing to see and more power to them. :2thumbsup:

It's because I have been looking at those people's knees and couldn't help wincing every time their foot hit the ground... Running isn't the way to get fit if you are heavy and don't have trained legs - it's the way to get injured.
I'm not trying to discourage anyone from running, it's a great sport, just be aware that your joints aren't invincible and running isn't the only good exercise for losing weight. In the beginning swimming, cycling, hiking or power walking are much better choices.

The thing you mention, Pressed_Rat, about people looking like they are going to die - people often think that they need to be completely exhausted by the time they finish exercising or they aren't doing it right. Which is, of course, false. Doing a really intense workout that makes you feel completely exhausted for the next three days may make you feel proud of yourself, but it's not really good for the body when trying to get fit from scratch.
Sadly a lot of gym programmes help spreading this bad idea around.

To be clear: I'm not talking about people with a lot of muscle mass and therefore heigher weight, I'm talking about people who haven't been regularly exercising for quite some time.

    Congrats. :2thumbsup:

Some people lose weight quickly and feel great. I would still like to add for other people here that losing it slowly is in general better for physical and psychological well-being, escpecialy for those who have been heavy for quite some time.

    Am Terro,

    your in a lather?
The fact is we live in a society where the majority of people are now classified as being obese or heading that way.
The PC brigade make it improper to comment on fat people .

My comments on the health risks are based on what i see daily.
The majority of people who come to the OT for joint replacement are overweight.
After surgery recovery and outcome are effected by how much they weigh.
In many cases the joint failure is a direct consequence of obesity.

Somehow society has become soft on saying anything that might offend those who eat too much.

In the future we might have to think about issues such as is it ethically right to tie up "Operating Time", resources and money with people who have made poor choices in exercise and easting when there are more deserving patients waiting for surgery , such as the many children?
These are questions which we will be forced to address as the health budget gets strained.
In your country the US which has a strained medical system by all accounts , the health system would function better if the population was not largely over-weight and doctors spent their time fixing problems related to obesity.
In an aging population it is easier to care for people who have sensible BMI's.

However basic the health warnings are the message is not getting through.

    She isn't.

I don't think anybody is. Please do quote somebody that is.

You seem to be going off in a tangent.

Lack of comprehension and what goes on in hospitals, consequences of opening your mouth too often to put food into it.

Ask anybody here what goes on (etc) in hospitals regarding obese patients, and most will tell you.

Like has been said: No shit Sherlock.

Start another thread about what you are talking about if you like...

I feel the exact opposite the only time I truly respect fat people is when I see them out there running because its tells me they’re truly interested in losing weight.

With that said you might be right because from my vantage point if I put on 10 lbs. over the winter I know by running again in the spring I’ll quickly lose the weight, whereas fatty won’t lose a pound - but at least they’re giving it the old college try and for that I respect them.

Perhaps we can merge this thread with the 'dealing with earthquakes' thread?

I respect their gumption, but running overweight can lead to injuries. Walking is a good start and changing diet would lead to faster results.

I've never been fat though so this is all assumption.
