does anyone know how or why we "made up" bush?

i think this is the time to own up to the truth that all of us created this reality.
it is deeper than the fucking haliburton or enron
it is deeper than lost children and asbestos dust in our lungs
aye fuck...............maybe its the wine.
or maybe it's right in our face
the fear that is injected into our very being
we that claim to be awake
we that scoff at words of terror and attempts of control by fear
we are afraid of something much deeper
the burdon of our actions
true freedom to make concious choices

so what are we talking about?

It was pretty entertaining at times, Bush was funny (as usual), I sometimes feel sorry for him, then I think of Iraq, the environment, tax cuts, etc....

By most accounts Kerry "won" and this is supposed to be Bush's strong area, so Kerry's doing good. I only listened on the radio, so I wish I could've seen it, I got the impression that Kerry was too civil, I don't know for sure though. I just think he should be as angry at Bush as everyone else is.

I liked when Bush said, "The only thing consistent about Kerry is that he's been inconsistant."

That made me laugh. =D

 

That had me rolling when I heard him say it. Bush was definitely put on the defensive.

 

Now there's the pot calling the kettle black. This entire administration has done so many reversals to cover for past lies and shortsightedness it has become the very definition of inconsistency.

 

I don't know if I had a favorite moment, it was pretty dull. I give the edge to Kerry as his arguments had more substance while Bush resorted to rhetoric. Problem is, a lot of voters these days seem to prefer rhetoric!

 

Wait a minute. You recently said on another thread that you like smaller government, yet you favor higher taxes and more environmental regulation? Please clarify.

 

Excuse me Huck but how do you imagine that the Bush admin has championed smaller government? lol.

These past four years have seen the largest expansion of Federal intrusionary powers and even the ardent desire to add the first ever "exclusionary" amendment to the Constitution in our nation's history.

Deregulation btw, is essentially what has given birth to the exponential growth of corporate malfeasance in both fiscal and environmental terms. Government's role is not to play patsy to the sheer avarice of corporations but to keep the amoral beasts firmly harnessed for the greater welfare of the general public. Its time, in fact, that some of these monoliths had their charters revoked entirely so as to end the hegemonising trend and reopen the playing field to true entrepreneurial innovation and competition.

We can start by removing the entitlement of "personhood" from all corporate entitities and returning them to the understanding that they exist by priviledge granted to them to operate by the people, not by any inalienable right according to which they may presume themselves to be the arbiters of power.

 

Green Thumb's post didn't mention any of these things, and my reply didn't defend Bush. I specifically asked him to reconcile his statements about smaller government, tax cuts, and environmental policy.

 

Huck- I do not favor high taxes, I left out info in my quick reply-I am against tax cuts to the wealthest bastards, that's all. I think gov. should be smaller, and I would like many programs to be discontinued.


I am in favor of strict environmental regulations. I wish it did not have to be so, I wish companies would regulate in favor of the public on their own, but we all know they don't. They do what is in the best interest of their bottom line. The environment is for all to enjoy, not for few to exploit for profit.

So in short, I favor protection of the environment over protection of people (welfare and other costly programs), although the two coincide much of the time as it is in our best interest to protect the environment.

good things for the gov. to do IMO:
protect environment
provide universal healthcare
address the source of crime instead of jailing people
stay largely out of our lives otherwise

As for the "It was boring" contingent Geez are you guys 14 years old? Politics isn't usually like some day time talk show with chairs and expletives flying. It is a LOT of talking and dealing, and arguing that isn't neccesarily "exciting."

What "welfare" programs would you cut? (WIC, AFDC/TANF, food stamps, school lunches, college grants, legal services, Medicaid, etc.)

How would you propose to provide universal healthcare while keeping government small and taxes low?

You don't think any criminals should ever be imprisoned?

What about labor or consumer protection laws?

When I don't know, I use the generic masculine, as most languages have done for centuries. I don't buy the politically correct "he/she/him/her/his/hers" nonsense.
