Did anyone watch the comedy festival? Ya know who was pretty funny? That woman talking about "le singe" and Planet of the Apes. Man, I couldn't stop laughing.
That was Kitty Flannagan. She used to be on Full Frontal which was a great comedy show in the 90's, a sequel to Full Forward. I loved that American lady near the start who was voted best female comedienne. Her jokes on George Bush were so funny and spot on. Have you seen Adam Hills sing Working Clas Man to the tune of Advanced Australia Fair? So good.
I saw that on spicks and specks, on the night Jimmy Barnes was on. Absolute Classic Trickster are you a spicks and specks fan too?
The most unique show that's been around for a while. Unfortunetely, a lot of people don't see it as they don't watch the ABC but it's great fun.
Spicks and specks was awesome and very down to earth. I miss it and can't wait until it's on again. Or - is it on already? I don't get to watch TV as I am on the road but I'll be at my dad's again soon so I'll get to watch it then.
Usually when an Aussie says that they (Aussies) have a 'dry sense of humour' I just agree with it, you know, to be polite. Then I think maybe its better to just be honest and let Australia know (politely) that, no, its not 'dry humour' but in fact, minimal humour. Now, I try and think of a funny Aussie so I can excuse the dishonesty. Its almost impossible but I came up with Rolf Harris who had to move to the UK before and after becoming funny. Then sometimes trying to bring up allegedly funny Aussies makes things worse because the Aussie might suggest Yahoo Serious :O Then you really really have to lie through your teeth to keep them from knowing the truth. No worries though.. there is a solution. Australia has a small number of Jews and that equals - good sense of humour. Behold: John Safrin - Australias answer to...well... people with senses of humour actually. So from now on I can at least say "Oh yeah.. John Safrin is hilarious" and nobody will have to mention its the 'Jew' in 'Australian Jew' that is the source of the funny.
Occam was born at prince henry.sydney 1:03 am friday the 13th of august 1959. Black friday [what a hoot] most repected comedian. the best are true philosophers. George Calin He cuts to the core of things. And treads on toes. Thats the call card..played up yes. But his strategy is clear. MAKE the truth hurt... they love it. As Calin would say. Without 'stuff' who are we? hehe how much 'stuff' did jesus have.? Occam
Come live in Australia. Your perception of Australians is based on what they feed you overseas which is usually shit...which says a lot about the sense of humour of folks in your own nation. EDIT: Australians often have similar feelings to you in relation to American, Jewish or British humour. We simply choose not to bring the subject up because a defining Australian charecteristc IMO is to avoid arrogance at any cost. And yes, John Safran's judaism does make for some funny stuff.
Its not even close to see who Aussies laugh at - look at the most popular comedies and comedians as chosen by the Australian viewing audience night after night will be American Comedies (UGHHH..and 'Frasier' for crying out loud at that). I have to admit one thing that does make me laugh and laugh in Australia are those poor bastards with the Mullets, sleaveless shirts and acid washed jeans. Hilarious!
Well, you've got me there. Commercial television in Australia is full of incredibly abhorable content. But you'll find most of the posters in this thread don't make up part of the mainstream demographic. There is a healthy subcultrue in Australia with good taste, just as there probably is over in the US. And on the topic of arrogance, I attribute your ideas on viewing more to cultural differences as oppsed to "who's got better taste", again, thats why i never take such cracks at foreigners just for the benefit of the doubt. Yes, they are funny. But i haven't seen one of them for about 10 years.
Case in point. Australian 'humour' is minimal. Case strengthed by.... More verification.... Cant even identify good american humour. Case closed. As for: There really are no Australian comedy exports that I know of. The ones we have gotten have been sent back. Paul Hogan is interesting although I would not necessarly dub him a 'Comedian' although Crocodile Dundee was 'amusing' for an American movie. He is a genuinely nice guy though. Met him on a set once. I will say this though.. I also believe there were no good looking women in Australia but you cant say that because I believe Olivia Newton John is Australian. So there ya go. Theres at least one.
And where are you from? Say Oz, and you're a bigger dope that i thought. The fact is, Aussies do have sense of humour but you just don't get it. Poor you in your isolation because you're missing out on a great part of us.
Oh yes.. lol... yes I know the 'they just dont get it' thing. We have been playing along with that too. Err.. Right... its so 'dry' that we dont 'get it'. Yes. Thats it.
Hmm, i sense arrogance. A HA, you're a yank! You don't get our sense of humour, because your country and way of being is completely different to ours and us as people. You would have to live here or have many close friends as Aussies to truly get us. Otherwise, it's barely an opinion from a second class position on the matter. Why don't you go invade a country or shoot a friend with pellets or something.
Trickster, the guy isn't just bashing aussies. He doesn't like homos either. Head to the 'gay' forum, and check out his thread
Erasmus70 Humour is subjective. Thus. Case cannot be closed 'Good' does not apply to humour..it is a moral stance. didnt they teach you that in whatever institution you were bred in? You however, are funny. You say funny things. Like a fart that sounds like the twighlight zone tune. And just about a deep Occam
