I hate soccer. So I'm happy Australia got thrashed and hopefully that'll just keep everyone's mouths shut. I never have to hear about soccer where I live but every World Cup it's like the whole population suddenly grows an interest in the sport, it's pathetic.

Seeing as Poland ain't in it, I'll side with the Germans.

But they have to play the good teams now haha. My Facebook feed is already quite annoying. State of Origin and World Cup every damn post.

I wasnt really watching it anyway, head in computer, would only look up everytime commentators started screeching or watch the replay. In between I was like, man even at this level this shit is so boring

The last World Cup I had a lot of money on Germany to do well because they had that Polish guy. I remember watching some games and I was security guard at a sports club at the time so nothing else to really do and I remember thinking I get the game, I get the strategy.. But it still sucks.

When we rugby players played soccer with the wogs at school they always thought they'd be awesome but they'd never beat us because they're too mixed up with trying all their tricky ball movements and we'd just go in and boot the ball away from them and they couldn't ever win. It pissed them off too haha.

The more you know about a sport, the more likely it is that you find it interesting. Soccer/Football is still pretty boring though.

With all team-league sports, the main draw is that people are lead to believe that the teams represent them personally. This in turn generates a sense of national identity among people who may otherwise have little or no connection to one another.

FIFA has been able to harness this sense of national identity to an extraordinary degree, making it the only truly global mass audience sporting event other than the olympics.

Without that sense of identification, my guess is that the majority of fans would not give a shit.

I don't follow soccer, but I thought FIFA was involved in a huge scandal over World Cup bids, bribery, and match fixing?

Aren't there riots in Brazil over this?

I think that they're mostly rioting over the fact that they spent 11 billion for the cup while lots of people are dirt poor

I hear FIFA is corrupt as hell though

    DID YOU KNOW?
Since their World Cup winning campaign in 1966, only two English players wearing shirt No9 have scored World Cup goals: Shearer (1998), and now Sturridge (2014).

Italy looked good, but I was surprised how well England played to be honest. They might still have a chance of qualifying for the knock out stages if they play like that against Uruguay and Costa Rica

Prandelli think there should be time-outs, so players (who aren't used to these brutal heats) could freshen up.
Marchisio at times thought he was hallucinating, cause it was so hot.

Qatar is going to be a disaster.

Also, okay, it's almost unbearably hot in Brazil, so why wait June? If it's any better in let's say April or October, why not do April or October instead?
