Yes, it is your body you can do what you want with it. No one is entitled to any job, either. If you want to get paid, you have to play by the rules. This isn't 'nam, there are rules, and sometimes you just have to suck it up, smile, and eat the shit sandwich of (a little bit of) conformity. Nobody's saying don't get tattoos, but maybe you'd better think twice before getting something done on your neck or sleeve up your forearm. Not everyone thinks they're okay and while extreme freedom of expression is a great concept, making people uncomfortable isn't going to win you anything except grudges against the powers that be. If you stand so rigidly on your values that you cannot be moved, eventually a force will come that it so strong you will break. But if you bend a little then surely the root of your essence will remain intact and you will not be blown away.
Old prejudices die hard. When I was young ,generally speaking, nobody had tattoos except ex cons and women NEVER had them. Piercings were unknown except in the South Pacific and Africa.Customer to me: Man,your son is scary looking, but when I talked to him,he's a real nice guy". He's 6' 5", has neck tats(which I was disappointed about) full arm tats and in the 12 years he's been working with me,only one dick-weed had the gall to him if he was in a gang. We didn't WANT his job and did not bother to bid. Someone mentioned questioning one's judgement about getting them and and I understand that, but I think it's probably people my age that still have those feelings. We here all know it's what's on the inside that counts, but sometimes employers don't. So,I guess it's a matter of judgement wether to get visible tats or not, depending on what type of job one is looking forward to.
my mum got her job with her tattoos covered, but when she went into work they're all like "why's there a rabbit with a joint on your arm?" and wrote her up, they can't fire ppl for tattoos here but since then, she had to cover her arms for work and the one supervisor lady keeps writing her up for a bunch of stupid shit. if you get 3 LEGITIMATE write ups then your out.... so yeah sucks to have visable tattoos
Really? I actually would probably be more confortable if my pizza guy showed up with tattoos all over his arms.
There have always been plenty of criminals with suits and ties and shiny black shoes. Our culture is shit. We are told to not judge a book by its cover and to be yourself as kids... until we try that shit in the real world as an adult and then society looks at you like your fuckin crazy if you do. I can't have dreads where I work because it's unprofessional. This system sucks all the individuality right out of us until all that is left is poop.
Yes it make me sad to realise this happens and its also hard for ppl 2 get jobs when hav some tattoos or dreads. I mean i worked at a supermarket and we only aloud one stud in each ear! Luckly i will never work at a supermarket ever again but OMG, is some1 really going to go to the manager and say 'That person has 3 earings in there ear i am scared 2 go to that checkout' There is so many things wrong with judgmental closedminded ppl it makes me upset, i cud never get along with ppl like that, but iv learnt to breathe and just try to ignore it lol
I never thought about this before... but I can not recall ever having my food delivered by a black person. Even in minority heavy neighborhoods.
True. One of the reasons I hate to wear a suit and tie is that almost all of the worst lies I have heard in my life have come from men wearing suits and ties and having great haircuts.
I have no tattoos or piercings. Age-wise, I might even fall into the category of "old farts" you refer to. Nonetheless, I have nothing against people with tattoos or piercings. I don't understand why people want them, but that's a different issue. Quite often I've found that the more "bizarre" a person appears (sorry, I used that for lack of a better word), the more soft-spoken and polite they are when I approach them.
