I chiefly remember Sunnyside for my car door being jemmied and my feet cut by sharp shells, much less glass. Yes, "Posso" would take a long drive if coming from the Peninsula. There is the Queenscliff-Sorrento ferry that some people use in summer for those living on the 'neck' of the Peninsula south of Mount Eliza. For everybody else, an early start and perhaps overnight stay in Torquay (for weekends) is a good choice.

In hot, bright sun, such as you will routinely find at "Posso" on stinking hot days, you cover everything with sunscrean. You get a melanoma on your poker and you're in extremely serious strife indeed: they'll take your toy away without a second thought! Yes, really! Slip! Slop! Slap!

Well it's best to avoid that, I guess I'll be washing off the sunscreen afterwards next time and make sure it's all off so I don't get another rash don't want that either. Then again I'm unlikely to go on a stinking hot day and choose a mild one but the sunscreen will still go on nonetheless.

Actually, scant few people go to Posso on those "stinking hot days" e.g. 40 degrees, bright sun with a warm wind: it can be a harrowing experience on the sand with sunburn turning everbody into a bright shade of beetroot and the dry conditions bringing on dehydration and for those who prefer sunny-side up all day, heatstroke and the spectre of melanoma. I prefer days of 25 to 30 degrees and even then just for a couple of swims, rock-platform inspections and enough sun to "pink" me up, no more. Then hooooome to creature comforts!

Still, Posso is better than that terrible nude beach of Campbells Cove. That is surely an aberration, a truly sorry statement of neglect and rampant depravity (sex on a nude beach? You bet, and down there they don't hide it...). Mind you, the nearby colourful beach shacks are a nice subject for photography.

Nude beaches can be great... sadly, they rely on the attitudes of the neighboring communities to really be comfortable places. I feel very fortunate to live in an area where public nudity is not illegal and is widely accepted, so the "clothing optional" beaches here are well-populated and mostly very friendly and wholesome, even for a girl going on her own.

Point Impossible has for a long time been in the crosshairs of a rebellious councillor in the Surf Coast Shire that has repeatedly called for the beach to be 'closed down'. Why? Because it's a gay haunt. Hello!? A 'gay haunt'? Along, with, railway stations, public parks, hundreds of other beaches, shopping centre hideouts... goodness knows how many others...? Fed up with him, the local and State-based group charged with overseeing the beach fought long and hard for his removal from the council. He ballowed. He threatened. He screamed and even turned up on the doorstep of a nudist "aggressor". Finally, the council (and ratepayers, too, surprise surprise) had had enough and he was removed and not re-elected. And Point Impossible was saved.

This baron of bullshit is still lingering around and all groups have a watching brief on his attitude and clueless drivel issued in media releases. One problem we noted early on is that he is of Samoan descent, and catholic, and as such he disapproves strongly of nudity or "lewd behaviour" (which he has never described, other than to say nudity is "absolutely lewd". I don't know enough about Samoa (nobody does) to pass any sort of value-based judgement, but it would seem he has always taken the moral high ground (and the only one to do so in a council that has given overwhelming support to keeping "Posso" a nude beach). Nothing has been heard of him for a while, but no doubt he'll start his engines when the southern summer starts in a few weeks.
