Book burning may have made some kind of sense back when type was set & presses operated by hand. But I bet a modern print shop can turn out books faster than you can flick your Bic. It is just silly now, as silly as you'd expect from Floridiots who think they need a fire in August.
Hey, it was in Flordia, at Disneyland, if I remember correctly that first started a ban or censor regarding hiring gays....perhaps being "open" was against Disneyland rules or some such rubbish. Anita Bryant, as a Christian began this - again if I remember correctly, and I'm pretty sure I do... How can these type Christians overlook the whole deal about not judging?
I suppose that is where it started in Germany back in the 30's. First it was books. Then it was people.
I heard on the radio today that Muslims in Afghanistan have retaliated in a march calling for the death of President Obama--whom 46% of Republicans and probably 100% of the Qur'an burners believe is a Muslim. Go figure!
once again Christianity putting its foot somewhere it does not belong what a surprise cough cough Christian terrorism
I read an opinion piece written by a Native American that I think explains this very well. http://www.denverpost.com/opinion/ci_15986921 So added to and summarized.... As Christians we can burn books like the Quran, and feel justified and praiseworthy. But if anyone burns a Holy Bible, they must be cursed and forced from society. As Christians we can go around proseltyzing left andf right in countries that are remote, by technology standards, essentially giving the "converts" an impression that come to Jesus and you get an X-Box. But if Muslims merely want to build a Mosque where the Christians don't approve of it, there will be hell to pay. We do unto others what we do not want done to us. For us it's righteous. For them it's hell and damnation. How right are we, really? If that church wants to burn the Quran, be my guest. But they have no right nor reason to complain when Islamists decide to build a Mosque down the street.
I get the feeling from this thread that neither Christians nor secularists should have any opinion of Islam.
you have to wonder . . . why is this even news? everyone already knows floridian talibangelists are as crazy as fuck so they're going to burn some books? they've already proved their stupidity, with their "no homo" sign, and their involvement in the rifqa bary scam news of the weird, sure, but please, no more national attention for subnormal douchebags, okay?
and so we should just ignore them a hope they go away? Idk about you, but I prefer to not hide my head in the sand and pretend that extremists are only in third world countries and that all the hate they spill at our country is without any reason. When I see hatred I point it out as wrong and this guy is about as wrong as it gets.
Nonsense. People have been disrespecting Christ and Christians for as long as I can remember. It's called freedom.
That's the islam that threatens Comedy Central that we're being ignorant toward? That's the islam that represses women, scourges them, stones them to death, cuts off ears and noses? That's the islam that over the last 10 years has more and more adopted the policy in America of not letting women pray with the men up front? Are we being ignorant to the islam that wherever in the world has become the predominant religion has driven all other religions out (just look at what's happened to Christianity in Turkey since the seventies)? Islam calls for 'tolerance' only when it's not able to force the culture to adopt its laws. But islam itself is probably the most intolerant religion on the planet. And the cultures that arise from it are crystal-clear examples of this deadly intolerance.
