i need to take a picture of my phone for this thread. it's the envy 2, i've had it for around 6 years. the thing is broken at one hinge and somehow still working.

i think i'm about to buy a smartphone though, so i can get a cheaper plan than my current one at verizon

Sure looks good! Seems you can store all your things in it like you would a fanny pack or purse... so you have your phone, plus a drink holder, key holder, wallet holder, and more!

Young women at the mall love my flip phone. They say things like, "It's so tiny! Where did you get that? I'm so tired of having to carry my I-phone around all the time!"

I know they're starting to make a comeback, but I don't think they're everywhere yet.

    It's a good companion to a 7-inch I-pad that doesn't make voice phone calls.

i didn't realize they had gone away. i've never been to the phone store when they didn't have a small selection of flip phones right there with everything else.

It was worse than that. For several years, the dominant companies around here used to send out letters implying that they were eventually going to force all their customers to upgrade to smartphones by making it impossible for the older phones to connect to their system. They never did follow through. They did cut my old phone off from being able to send or receive pictures. The camera still works.

You can still get the pics on a computer I reckon? With a cable or something (I lost mine for years though, but my flip phone still takes pics too :p)

    Wow... Time to change providers.

Unfortunately, a Windows software "upgrade" turned off cable access. Microsoft now classifies my phone as "hardware no longer supported by Windows". This is one of the things I hate about technology. There is nothing physically wrong with that phone. I wonder if Verizon paid MS some money to remove that driver.

AT&T won't let me use that phone at all.

All those sales reps and technical support people pretty much make fun of anybody who wants to talk about using anything that's more than two years old. Nothing but a money scam.

One of the few :p advantages of still running windows XP :D As this could be because you updated to a newer windows? If not, I said nothing :p

That sucks! I don't have encountered that problem here so far (with flip and even older phones at least. Certain technical stuff getting obsolete before it breaks down is occasionally an annoyance here too... Especially when talking about computers and their operating systems, support or software. External hardware not supported anymore etc. It is actually quite outrageous and unnecessary imo)

My oldest computer runs Vista, and it's set to check for updates once a week. It never crossed my mind that they would use that update feature to turn off access to hardware that was still working. Sometimes I underestimate how evil Microsoft can be. They claim the updates are nothing but bug fixes and security updates.

And when you complain about it, a tech geek who has probably never been on a date in his entire life treats you like you must be a dinosaur who just came back to life, or else you would be passionate about buying the latest version of everything. That's the way it usually works here.

I like buying things that last a long time. I buy quality stuff and take good care of it.
