Elaborate foods are a no-go. Simple tasty things are good, I get hungry by half way through a trip. Eat a light meal a while before dropping. .75-3 hours, I suppose. You're already running you body and mind in overdrive, you need energy. Vitamins and whatnot couldn't hurt, but I usually take those tripping or sober.
We all have diff metabolisms... I'm all screwed up these days from working nights but if I was on a "normal" bio-cycle, I can get up in the morning, have some strong coffee, and not eat till lunchtime or so and not get hungry. There is a theory that complex, high fat, heavy food will alter the effects of lucy and shrooms in your body. I can't point to any specific research. TBH, a good part of my doing this is superstition. Roor's advice of simple light food is a happy medium I feel. I am often hungry at the point when I drop, but I find hunger waxes and wanes. For me, I can get hungry like you described, do something to take my mind off it and it goes away. By the time lucy, or tryptamines or pea's start to settle in, I am in no way hungry at all until a certain point coming down. That's something I usually enjoy, having something during re-entry, which may be something small and light or a big heavy meal. And if it's lucy, a beer or two. I love a bit of alcohol afterwards. I can't point to anything scientific that says its better to trip on an empty stomach, it's just my practice.
Re tripping in general: something like a small-medium bowl of granola and yogurt an hour or so before. Nothing greasy or with low psychic energy like fast foods. Part way through I have a high-protein milk-based drink - the same as I have for working out. This is perfect for rolling and a good idea for tripping imo. I had thought to start a thread on psychedelics and nutrition. But here it is I guess.
I'm with you all the way on this. I have more experience in regards to rolling but I find if I eat less than ~4 hrs or so before the experience, I still roll but effects are diminished. I have found with LSD or every psychedelic pretty much that once the trip kicks in, my mind gets preoccupied with the effects and the trip produces enough fuel to sustain me, any hunger that I may have had prior is swept away. Then during the re-entry period I find hunger will sometimes return and that's often when I get a bit to eat.
I think LSD may put down your hypothalamus as well, which gives you the "urge" to eat, sleep, and it contains your sex drive. But I don't know, I've easily lost the feeling of hunger on a trip, but sometimes my sex drive is unbelievably high, almost like an aphrodisiac... I think it was writer who said that he had a Mcdonalds coffee before dropping and felt sick.. so nutrition plays a big role. Despite my healthy eating, I've always been a big fan of coca-cola, but my last trip seemed to make me more conscious of its "poisons" I think it's because in normal life you can literally push those thoughts aside, but you just can't ignore that idea while tripping, so healthy eating brings more positive vibes while tripping. Whether it's a psychological thing or not, nutrition and tripping go hand in hand.
I am not sure if LSD is like mushrooms where you must have an emptier stomach for better effects. Shrooms obviously benefit from this because they are more easily absorbed in the digestive system if they are alone on the journey. Acid on the other hand is absorbed mostly sublingually for most. I personally love eating before, during and after LSD. I may be different than some of you, but eating is one of my favorite things, and tastes and the feeling of food going down my throat is excellent while tripping. It needs to be something delicious though, and it takes much longer to eat. I just try to avoid things like dairy that create unwanted mucous. Lol, last shroom trip I had all that was in my friends fridge was milk so I just never ate anything and just drank loads of water, probably good for me.
Well LSD goes through your blood vessels to your serotonin receptors, so if you're chewing blotter under your tongue, I don't see why an empty or full stomach should matter for the effects, but I don't think I'd want to be stuffed silly while my body is spiraling out! haha
I find myself much more comfortable when I am not hungry. Also, doesn't everybody like the psychedelic dump? How can you have that without eating?
Some, I think writer included, just swallow the blotter. But either way, you can puke if you have a full stomach and things start tensing up. And I know I've puked on (non LSD) seratonergics due to an EMPTY stomach, both because of physical effects on the stomach and because of chemical effects. I think it's a solid strategy to start with a light meal some time before, and once one's stomach has got a jump-start on digestion, to drop.
